What an excellent, well organized day. The weather didn't hurt either.
A few things that I liked about the organization of this day:
Well screened drivers. There were no yahoos at the track, everyone listened to instructions, everyone's conduct on track was safe for themselves and others. For the 3+ hours on track I don't think I saw one spin-out or one wheel touch the grass!
Focus on car prep. There were 2 mechanical DNFs that I am aware of. That's extremely low for a group of almost 70 cars. Many of the cars had been set up by Can Alignment and were easy and safe to drive quickly. For example, the driver I was instructing had a Toyota Echo with only bolt on engine work, maybe 115hp, but extensive suspension and chassis setup by you-know-who. By the end of the day, this driver caught up to and passed 3 WRXs, a G35 and a couple of miatas at a track that is normally dominated by high horsepower cars.
I took my Dad for a few laps for his 62nd birthday. He has been coming to Mosport as a spectator since 1973 but has never been on the track. After a few hot laps with me driving flat out through corners 1, 2 and 4, he was completely stunned, amazed and saw a side of racing that never dreamed existed.
It was great to re-connect with Greg Amy, it was really interesting to compare the data between our two cars. And I appreciate your comments on my driving style ;)
For anyone who is considering this for next year, it's well worth the money. Just aim to have the car done by early April so you don't miss it!
