: I'm F*cked.....
SupaBlackNX2k 09-27-2002, 11:55 AM Well my *new* Classic that i bought is not doin so hot. I replaced the worn cams and it was running right other than really loud rocker arms that were awaiting replacement. I was out driving and it kept stalling when i would come to a stop. I also noticed the bad clanking sound (which i attributed to the rockers) was getting alot louder. I kept starting it up and driving in an attempt to get home (It was about 3am). eventually it just would not start anymore. I went over this morning and it fired right up. Also sounded absolutely HORRIBLE. The loudest sounds Ive ever heard come out of a running engine. I shut it off and sadly drove back home. Looks like I will be cruisin around in the NX for a while. Any Ideas of where to start locating the problem?? Or is the engine shot (It has 168K)?? TIA.
Mike

If it sounds like that, its a spun bearing :(
charlie2020 09-27-2002, 12:28 PM Did you bleed the HVLA when you changed cams?
mpg9999 09-27-2002, 12:45 PM Where is the sound coming from? If its coming from underneath the VC, then take it off and have a look at the cams, rockers, hvla's, etc.
chriscar 09-27-2002, 12:52 PM You may have spit out a rocker arm and/or shims. Pull the valve cover and take a good look around. If it did spit out any shims out, and you can't find them all, drop the oil pan, they'll probably be in there.
While you're in there, check to see that the tensioner popped out.

Try under the hood:D
Seriously, your best bet is an engine swap. At $300-$500 for a JDM engine it'll be cheaper than fucking around trying to repair the original and you'll end up with one with far less mileage.

 In regards to what?
SupaBlackNX2k 09-27-2002, 01:32 PM Well the sound was coming from under the valve cover but it ran fine. Now its coming from everywhere. Its so loud and obnoxious that i couldn't pinpoint it at all. I did not bleed the HVLA's but i dont think that would have caused my problem. Im gonna check that sound clip that serban posted right now. It would surprise me though if it was a bearing because i was told they were just replaced on the car.

SupaBlackNX2k 09-27-2002, 01:39 PM Unfortunately it sounds like Serbans Clip so i think its the bearing. So much for them being replaced...

93BlackBird 09-27-2002, 01:42 PM that means they prolly put some shit in there to shut them up. you can't trust shit anymore. not to go off topic though but I just saw a bottle of Smokeless motor oil.
Used car dealer+smokeless motor oil=getting your arse takin
hope you find your problem, but the JDM motor sounds like a great easy way to solve your problems and get some more hp
slipper 09-27-2002, 02:58 PM are you sure its the rocker arms? it might be a collapsed lifter, try using a bottle of lucas oil treatment, the really think stuff, and if that helps then its most likely the lifters.
sakerocket1 09-28-2002, 01:05 AM Here is how to check for a spun bearing. 1 start the car. 2 pull each plug wire out one at a time. 3 if the noise dissapears when you disconect the plug wire thats the one that is spun ( on my old motor if you pulled plug wire #2 the noise stopped and what do you know a month later the rod comes out of the block making two nice holes in the process mind you) anyway if it stops at any point after pulling a certain wire out that is your faulty bearing. step 4 buy a JDM motor
cantdoadonut 09-28-2002, 06:55 AM yeah sounds like a spun bearing to me, i had the same problem, starts off small, then over time gets louder and louder, then loses power then cuts off, then wont crank. i dont think you can go wrong with a jdm
maxdrvr847 09-28-2002, 08:30 AM where is the best place to get a JDM motor?
cantdoadonut 09-29-2002, 12:30 AM soko, or watanabe, do a search you should come up with a few more.. i dont know which is best though
Stirpicult 09-29-2002, 01:45 AM $5 says its a spun bearing in number 3. that's a guess by the way. that's what happened to my engine when i heard those noises. rod number 3 went through the side of the block.
knock knock.
who's there?
i forget how the rest goes. cylinder number 3
