Hey snail peps. Which resonators do you guys run (if you have one:D ) I'm going to do test pipe to resonator to exhaust. Everything 3 inch;) No shop has a 3 inch resonator so I'l have to order one from Summit. Any suggestions?

you can use a 3" in/out magnaflow straight-through muffler as a resonator.. or a glasspack (cheaper way, but i'm not sure if they come in 3").

which is better for flow?

OK what about dynomax race magnum bullet mufflers? They have 2. One is 231/2 inches long and one is 161/2 inches long both in 3 inch inlet outlet 4 inches round. Part # wlk24219 on summit website. Will these work just as well as the magnaflow muffler? Will it hit under the car? Thanks

Thanks i saw those too.. it says that they are not glasspacks, so i'm not sure what kind of resonating properties they have. it also says they are for "race use only"... (emissions issues?)

Any decent exhaust guy should be able to get it to fit. I have a 2.5 inch Bullet on my car and Greg Perry has a 3 inch on his classic. You might have to hang it a tad lower then my 2.5 inch but not more then a 1/4 inch. Doubt anyone would even notice that. The bullet is not as high quality as the magnaflow stuff but cheaper. Make sure your muffler guy does NOT butt weld the Bullet. Slide the tubing into the resonator will give it a constant diameter from start to finish. Most mufflers have a step in them to allow you to slide the pipe inside the muffler until it hits the step(before the step it is bigger then 3 inch's).

OK so basically look for something with a perforated core, correct?

Is it possible to use two mufflers? say two dynomax's?

I have a custom exhaust with the shorter 3 inch dynomax resonator. I like it. A good muffler shop should have no problem with it.

About the Dynomax race bullet:
The system on my GA powered 99 consists of this:
Manifold/cat
2" pipe from there back with a Dynomax race bullet in the secondary(CA emissions car) cat position, out to a 4" Bosal tip(Rice, I know). The bullet is the only muffling device I have unless you count that very restrictive manifold/cat(I belive only us GA guys were "blessed" with that). Normaly I would think this set-up would be very loud, but it is really quite tollerable. The bullet is prefforated core style and has held up well over one New England winter. I would say the bullet does a good job and would recomend it. I am in the process of ordering/receiving parts for my new system:
HS header
Random cat
Stromung 2" resonated mid-pipe
A'pexi NA version N1 muffler

Hope I shed some light one the Dynomax race bullet for you.

Our cars already use two mufflers. the first is called a pre-muffler/resonator/whatever-you-want-to-call-it and it is right after the cat. Basically you buy a smaller 4 inch round muffler of your choice to put into this spot. Then the traditional muffler goes on back.

Any perforated core resonator and muffler combination should work fine from a HP point of view. I would personally stick with Walker Dynomax (they also make the bullet) and Magnaflow. After that you get into the more niche market stuff like the Apex, etc. They are all fine I am sure.

If you don't slide the pipe into the muffler then the diameter will go from about 2.4 to 2.5 and then back down to 2.4 (this is on 2.5 inch piping). Not a big deal but it will hit the edge of the step rather then flow smoothly over it like if you slide the pipe into the step part.

I run the Dynomax Bullet: 24" length, 3" ID
Been very happy with it since before I had
no resonator. Sound is subjective but I'd
say it cut the volume by ~1/3 and, more noticeably, made the sound a pleasing deeper tone.

The resonator has an OD of 4" and contacted
some heat shields so I pulled those off. If
you still want more muffling I have heard of
sticking a 12" resonator after the 90' bend
of the midpipe but don't know if anyone has actually tried it.

Where did you get that resonator? How much? TY

As mentioned by Steve, I do have the 3" Dynomax bullet resonator on my car. I have the 16" one, btw.

I like the sound, but will probably up to the 22" one, just because I am old and do not like loud things any more. ;)

You can see all the pics of the exhaust system in this post: http://www.sr20deforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18136

sweet exhaust man. I wasnt sure what to do about my exhaust but i think i will go with that dynomax resonator and an Apexi N1 rear muff. I havent been able to find any stainless steel resonators anywhere. I have a hard on for the stainless stuff cause i live where salt is very abundant. But i guess a coat of some high temp paint will have to do.

Did someone say they were looking for SS resonators:
