: JWT ECU vs. Stock ECU

I have just dynode my car the other day!

We only did one test, because it started to make noises! :( - So now there is nothing else to do than to take it out again and replace the crank and the "plejlstænger" (Don't know the English word - The ones holding the piston together with the crank)

But I have a couple of questions regarding the results! - When it comes to the effect I'm satisfied, but I'm FARE from satisfied with the fact that when it gets REALLY wild around 6500rpm when the exhaust cam goes to high then it redlines already around 7500 rpm!? :( - I will BET that it can go much longer! At LEAST 8500 rpm.

My HP curve wasn't even beginning to climb down when the engine cut off at 7500!! I WANT at LEAST the next 1000 rpm!!

Now here comes my question, because I can NOT live with it this way! When does the JWT ECU cut off in contrary to the stock and does anyone have some results before and after a JWT ECU install!?

Is it the same with the rest of the SR20VE engines that they cut off so soon or do I have some kind of emission friendly Nissan ECU!? Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarghhhhhhhh :(

BTW it made 188 HP and the sound is SOOOOOO GREAT!!! :D

I have recorded the whole episode, so I will rip it and leave you guys an ftp account where you can DL the clip if you want to! :)

Cheers
Carsten

Glad to hear you got it to run to redline Carsten. I can't wait to download that recording. :)

The word you are looking for is conrod - short for connecting rod - which connects the piston to the crankshaft.

That's sad about the noises :( but it might not be not as bad as you think. :)

Crank journals can be resized by metal spraying, or refinished undersize/oversize and fitted with special bearings.

Even slightly bent cranks can be straightened using a mallet (not a press) by competent engine builders/machinists.

I'm wondering if your VE has spun a conrod bearing the way that other SR20 engines have been known to do.

Please post the Dyno sheet. I have yet to see a stock VE that doesn't loose power after 7200 rpm. Also, what kind of mods are you running? I have seen some of what happens to a stock VE that hits a revlimiter over 8000 rpm. It is not pretty and not repairable.

Hey Sandy my man,

aaaaahhh thanx! :) I will try to remember!

I'm not wooried! The only problem is that it is going to take me almost a month before I'm back in my car again! :( - We have a very good shop here in Denmark called WestSpeed! They can handle the job.

BUT BUT BUT BUT.................... - I might juuuust MAYBE have got my hands on one of the Danish DTC Primera engines which is build on the VE engine, so I can use their ENTIRE top, crank, pistons and ECU!! It redlines at 9100 rpm!!! :D weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee HOPE he will sell it to me!!

I'm expecting to have the FTP account ready for you guys to night! :)

Hey Steve,

Here is the dyno sheet!

Sorry for the poor graph, but I didn't have time to get it dyno tested on my normal dyno!

We had workload on the dyno so the actual result on the machine from the digital output was 140 KW - 188HP

OK one more time! :D

Frankly, I haven't a clue what it means. LOL

he he nope as I said I didn't have the time to get it to my normal dyno place :) - So this is a very poor graph!! :D - BUT however it had a digital output also which said 140KW - 188HP

So the x-axis is Km/h and the y-axis is KW

The first lump is first gear, Second lump is (yes you guessed it) second gear and the third is the test and final big lump in third gear! :)

The line going down from the top and the lump followed by it is the roll out. The lump on the way back is caused by the break :)

BTW did anyone have any experience with the gain from a stock ECU to a JWT ECU for the VE!?

Most people on the forum have used the JWT from the start. I know a couple have used the regular ECU but I don't see them post much.

ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME :) I'm driving with stock ECU! :)

When does the JWT ECU hit the revlimit!?

They did not want to program mine for 8000rpm. But they did with a waiver statement on the ECU. I would bet that you are using the oem tach to tell were the redline shift is at. I have mine set to 7700rpm but I actually hit it at about 8000 indicated on my oem tach. They are that far off. Maybe 7700=7950 or so. Can you tell were the stock ecu triggers your cams?

I don't have the exact numbers, we were having a little trouble hearing when the intake cam activated, but on the tach it said 6500 for the exhaust!

We were going to put on a computer for the second run, so that we could get the exact numbers, but we never drove it the second time because of the engine making strange noises, but when I have finished the rebuild of the crank and rods, then I'm going to find the numbers! :)
