: Just bought my first se-r
94 se-r 09-29-2002, 11:41 PM HI forum,
I just bought a 1994 se-r red with 103,000 miles from the original owner the car was well maintained.. It does have a few things wrong such as the blower doesn't work in 1 and 4 positions the trunk latch from the driver seat doesn;t open the trunk. It also has an oil ring problem near the spark plugs.. the compression was 180 all cylinders leak down came out good. The tranny feels ok not great but not bad just ok... Guess what i paid for it??? I live in Los angeles...Have to tell you this forum is damn good and help on the blower and the installation on the oil rings would be helpful...
IvanC 09-30-2002, 02:42 PM Congrats on the SE-R! I have a '93 with 111k miles on it. The blower settings are a common problem, it's a simple fix by replacing the blower resistor pack, or repairing it yourself if you are decent with a soldering iron.
Look on http://www.se-r.net and click on Problems. Find the link that says something about the Fan setting. Odd that your #1 position works, usually it's 1-3 that don't work and #4 is the only one that works.
Not quite sure how to solve your oil in the plug wells problem...
Ivan
Slartibartfast 09-30-2002, 04:54 PM Oil in the spark-plug wells would be leaking o-rings under the cam cover. Take the cover off, clean the gasket, o-rings and mating surfaces, then reinstall. The gasket and o-rings can be reused unless they were pinched. Only the half-moons of the main gasket need sealant.
Benito Malito 10-01-2002, 12:53 AM Yeah the o-ring thingy's are re-usable.
Tranny is weak on these cars, watch high rpm launches, keep engine movement in check. Shift gently when you can.
I have the blower motor problem in both my cars. Mine doesn't work on setting 1 only, but it's developing. The other only works on 4. Not high on my list though.
Watch for door sag, headliner falling. Clean out the door jamb, right behind fenders. Even in LA they could be full of crap.
Welcome, and enjoy yourself.
94 se-r 10-01-2002, 02:55 PM are u talking about taking the valve cover off then replacing the o rings to prevent oil in the spark plug holes and the valve cover gasket doesn't need any sealant

All sealing surfaces on the cam cover use rubber (neoprene? viton?); remove the cover, clean all the surfaces and gaskets, then reinstall the cam cover. Gaskets only need replacing if torn or pinched. The outer gasket has half-moons to fit at the cam ends, that's where you need sealant.
SE-Rican 10-01-2002, 06:36 PM Congrats on the buy bro. You are going to love it!!!

what kind of sealant do u use ???? and how many half moons are on the gasket??? how long should it take me to do this job it seems pretty basic
thanks for all the help
SR20RACER 10-05-2002, 11:39 AM Make sure to check the cable on the latch in your trunk. Sometime people take these off so people can't break in their cars ans then steal whatever is in their trunk, but somethimes the cable comes loose in the trunk latch. Good luck and don't let anybody give you shit for having a lowport. VIVA EL LOWPORT!!!!!!
Nathan 10-08-2002, 11:52 AM Another happy se-r owner, thats great. have fun in it. Anyway, how much did you pay?
808se-r 10-08-2002, 01:57 PM i thought i had a problem with my trunk too, until i checked the latch on the trunk itself and found you can switch it on/off..
cant remember if it was down or up, but voila trunk release works now..
