Hey I have the GA16DE and I wanna do a sr20det gti-r swap.

I have alot of questions but I am ***** make myself sounds like a dumbass.

1. What is the better engine to drop in the SR20DET or the GTI-R?
2.Will my stock GA16DE gauge cluster work with the new engine or will I need to get all new Aftermarket gauges?
3. Will my stock tranny work with the sr20det engine or will I need to get a new tranny since I have not been able to find a sr20det FWD Auto TRANNY,
4.What is a good swap to go from Auto to Stanard?
5.Is it really worth going from an auto to stanard?
6.I went to a local motor shop and of course he mainly does lame Hondas but he said he could do the swap but I need to know which vavle cover the Black or Red one which one does it matter???

I'll try to answer your questions:
1.The GTi-R motor makes more power, but not all that much. It will be more expensive anda big time pain to install. The regular SR20DET can easily be upgraded to make more power than the GTi-R. On top of that, GTi-R parts would be very very hard to come by. A better idea may be to swap in a normal SR20DE then once you have it running properly, turbocharge it. N/A SR20DE's can handle pretty much everything you can throw at them. If you try to put a turbo motor in right away, it will be a long time before your car runs again, if it ever does.
2.You will probably want to get an SE-R guage cluster
3.You will need to get a SR20 tranny, axles, etc.
4.what the hell? what do you mean what is a good swap from auto to standard? You will be putting a new tranny in anyways, might as well go standard
5.Yes if you can drive standard.
6.All front wheel drive SR20DETs have red valve covers, maybe not the GTi-R.
Make sure this shop knows nissans and not jsut 'lame hondas'. If you're going to pay a shop to be doing this, expect to pay quite a bit. If you were to do this swap yourself it would cost you 3000 in parts alone, and that a conservative estimate. So at least 5 grand for a quality installed SR20DET

IIRC the black valve cover he is refering to is the sr20ve....its the nissan version of vtec.

What would be the best choice in the long run, sticking with the sr20de or going DET???
