I have a 94 se-r, and I want to know where I can find the A.R.V. on it. I want to try to clean it and get rid of my cold idle/running problem.

Thanks

I am not sure which one you are looking for, but one is on the passenger side end of the intake manifold, and one is on the bottom of the intake manifold.

I am looking for the one on the bottom of the intake manifold. Can you give me some description of what it looks like, or where I should be looking specifically? Is it on the passenger side or the driver side? There is some kind of metal bracket that is blocking alot of my view of the intake manifold from underneath. Is this going to block my view of the Air Regulator Valve?

You should be able to see it. its pretty much on the pass. side of the manifold and has two of the bigger vaccum hoses going to it. Its a black box that is just screwed to the bottom. Hope that helps some. Maybe someone has pics...

Now, does it matter if this is a high or low port motor? Will that change the position of this unit?

Does anyone have pics of this thing? I have looked several times and my view is very blocked.

this is getting frustrating. I have been under the car 4 times now. I see a coupe of hoses underneath there. There are 2 that are big, but I can't see where they are going to as my view of them is completely blocked.

Are the two hoses that I'm looking for an inch in diameter? Are the side by side?

I need an education on the intake manifold. I have a 94, so there is that big silver brick (top of the intake manifold I believed) that lays across my fuel injectors. Now, is this ARV supposed to be on the bottom of this thing or is it supposed to be on the bottom of the 4 runners (i think that is what the 4 metal intake tubes are called). Either way, It looks like this is a job that requires a lot of removal, because there is no room to work in either place.

Wait a minute is the motor High port or low port?

I can never remember which one of the two designs came later but I have the later design. I think it changed after 92. My fuel injectors are beneath the silver brick. I had a 92 se-r in the past where my injectors were on top.

Ok then your motor is a low port. Well I don't quite know where it is on a low port. Should be attached somewhere to the manifold though. Sorry but someone with a low port motor will have to help you find it I guess. I will still see if I can find out though.;)

i still have cold idle problems on my 94... I've removed the ARV to check it and mine is dead.. it is directly beneath the intake manifold(what you referred to as 'silver brick' i believe) on the passenger side of the car. if you are still checking under the car, you're in the wrong place, you access it from above.

oh, what symptoms are you having? As for me the car will die in the first second of a cold start, unless I give it gas for a few seconds.. If I try to drive while it's cold, the idle is really sensitive, and nearly stalls when you get back to a stop.

well, good luck. I just ordered mine from Courtesy(~$71), hopefully that takes care of it.. otherwise I'll give up, tried everything else already...

thats the same problem i have except once the car is warm the idle stays right on 500. im thinking thats just the idle adjust though. is there a way to repair the old arv rather than blowing 71 bucks on a new one?

Everyonce in awhile there is no problem at all. Those moments are far and few between though. Otherwise the problem presents itself when the car is cold and warm all the way up to 3200 rpms. Then at 3200 it's like the car gets a shot of adrenaline and comes alive. However, while the car is running like this it has less power.

Once my car gets to operating temps of about 100 degrees celsius (coolant temp), it drives normal and stays that way until I shut the car off. Once it's restarted there's an excellent chance that I have to go through the whole process again.

O.K. About installing under the intake manifold. How do you get under there? Do you have to remove it? If so, how? I can't get a hand down there for any thing.

The only black thing I can see at all (visibility is terrible under there due to the tight squeeze) is a small black box that appears to be no more than a quarter to half inch deep and about 1.5 inches in length and width give or take.

Oh, 808? How did you check the ARV? Was it by the instructions on se-r.net? Those things look kinda' complicated and I don't have the tools or the time to do them. Any other courses of action to take?

Thanks

have you guys set your ignition timing?

jbloggs_c

mines dead on 17. i had thought that might mess with the idle but it only started idling low about a month after i did the timing. also i had the arv cleaned by the dealer last april when i was having similar problems and that fixed it at least temporarily.

did you have the dealer remove it from your car as well, or did you just bring it in to them? What did it cost?

I would adjust the timing but I have a very freakin old UR pulley that only has ONE mark on it. I may buy a stock pulley and try to set it with that.

Purist I have seen your threads regarding problems with your pulley. This weekend I am going to install my set of pullies. When I am done I will PM you to see if you still need the stock crank pulley. Thankfully the set I got is new and the crank has all 6 marks on it.
