Newbie here, just wanted to check in. My wife drives the G20 and after the acquisition of our new Cobra, she's been asking about a perfomance "upgrade" for her car, lol.

We found the SR20DE when we bought a 1992 NX2000, brand new in late '92. We were actually shopping for a Sentra SE-R, but they didn't have any and sold us a candy apple red NX (with T-tops) for basically the same price. What a great car.

I'll ask the technical questions in the appropriate forums, but I wanted to let you all know that there are some American Musclecar owners out there that can appreciate (and own) a DOHC four-banger, and want to improve it :D

Thats cool man. Have you seen the thread about the Sentra and Cobra? Intersting huh. Good to have you along and you made a damn good choice in buying that four banger.;)

I drove a 1985 Merkur XR4Ti the summer of '85, and bought a used 1989 Ford Probe GT Turbo two cars before the '03. Having owned boosted and N/A DOHC four bangers (and now boosted and N/A DOHC V8s - traded a '98 Cobra for the new one) I have a unique perspective on the various aspects of both...

I have a healthy respect for all fast cars.

Yeah I sort of figured that was how you got here. That thread seems to be making its way across the internet very well. Either way its nice to have some one that can offer both points of view.

I like that Cobra you have. I wonder what the new Mustang will be like when they start using the LS/Thunderbird underpinnings. If they do that and keep the supercharged engine. WOW.

Most of us have respect for anything fast too. I'm glad the Mustang has a proper suspension setup so that it handles. And now it's faster than any F-body too. I use to knock Mustangs because the cost more than the F-bodies and were slower. Plus they still had the rear axle. Now that this generation has an independent rear and LOTS of power, I respect it... a lot :) I spent two summers at Ford as an intern and some of my friends got into the clay studios where they were carving out the body of the next gen mustang. They all say it's badass... wish I could've gotten in! Actually, now that I think back, they had this summer intern conference thing where teams of interns had different projects to develop and present. One teams project was to video tape people and find out what they wanted in a car. The team asked what I thought of the Mustang, I specifically said I would buy a mustang if it had an IRS and more power. That was summer of 2000. So I guess they do listen.

Welcome, Jimbo.

You'll find a bunch of performance-minded folks here, the occasional ricer, as well as some young SR20 enthusiasts just now learning about these cars.

Former V8 guy here, too. ;)

That G20 of yours would be more fun than you can imagine with a little boost, in the form of a used factory T25 setup. Just think: You could go pick on the fart-can-equipped cars in town with one of their own type....and if the heavy hardware is needed, go home and whip the Cobra out on 'em.

I hope you stick around here and have a good time. When it all boils down to it, we're all the same under the skin: Go-fast guys.

I was reading on the mustang forum briefly the other day and I saw a pic of the new Cobra. VERY NICE! I wish I had one. Um...what thread is this though about cobra and sentra? My only reason for getting the se-r instead of the mustang was gas mileage. I get about 1 tank a week on my se-r getting 25-28mpg and being that I drive between 300-350 a week, a Mustang was just too expensive on the gas. What is the mileage though on the new cobra?

Welcome to the SR20DE-Forum. I think the 03 Cobra is bad ass for that matter any SVT with the exception of the Contour but not the Saleen Contour and ignore any of the stupid comments that may be made by ricers for they are to imature to know anything you always have that 10% in Nissan crowds and 90% in Honda crowds. For the most part I think it is safe to say that there are not to many ricers in the Nissan community as a whole.

WElcome to the forum, its nice to have an open minded muscle guy in our midst. As far as getting that g20 faster, is it a 5spd or auto?? for around 2 grand or so you could hook up a nice turbo setup. If you dont want to go that route, then i say place racing cai, Pacesetter/hotshot header, and a nice 2.25" cat back. Then u can move onto cams and pullies and u will have a car that should be able to run 14's all day long....if its a 5spd of course. ;)

New Mustang Cobra sux.... I'll beat it going in reverse

J/K
=) It sux cause now I gotta put bigger HP into my car to beat a stock Mustang =)

Actually, wasnt this supposed to come out a while back as The Mach 1 or something?

So is the Mustang engine the same as the Lightning? I know you gotta change the pulley and some other things.

I think that Mustang is a really nice car and I'd get one but too much money for me.

Now since your hooked on boost, you need to go over to the turbo forum and learn about options for boost on the SR20...
But since you already have a fast car, I'd probably just go NA. I/H/E pulleys and some S4 cams and you can run mid to low 14's good enough to beat a lot of cars out there.

Unfortunately it was the only other Sonic Blue 2003 ('vert) in San Antonio, owned by an acquaintance of mine nicknamed racerat (we dyno'd together three weeks ago). The tech is fortunate it wasn't my car...

It will be a stick-axle GT with a N/A DOHC 32V 4.6, five speed and a old-school shaker hood scoop. Basically a '96-98 Cobra with 3.55s (instead of 3.27s) in the new body style. It will also have some (love-it-or-hate-it) retro guages, seats and trimmings.

So is the Mustang engine the same as the Lightning? I know you gotta change the pulley and some other things. The only thing that is the same is the blower (Eaton M112), and even that is different in that Cobra breathes from the back (more efficient) where the L breathes from the front.

Cobra:
4.6 DOHC 32V (281 c.i.d.)
Forged: Crank, Rods, Pistons
Stock blower pulley: ~3.6"

Lightning:
5.4 SOHC 16V (330 c.i.d.)
Stock blower pulley: 2.93"

The Cobra makes 8 1/2 lbs. of boost with the stock pulley, another four (for a total of 12 1/2) by swapping a stock L pulley (+50 HP without a chip). You'll see by my dyno how pig rich (10:1) the factory tune is, no problem with more boost. A chip that cleans the A/F up is good for 25-40 RWHP, alone. My graph is stock with drop-in filter and Flowmaster cat-back. The guys with CAI, 2.93 pulley, chip, aftermarket catted mid pipe and cat back (take your pick), are making darn near 500 RWHP  Not bad for a $1,500 investment (agreed it is already pricey at $35K).

Until my warranty runs out, I'll have to be satisfied with 431 BHP/ 410 Tq. :D

With zero miles on the odo, it got 21.5 MPG on the 200 mile drive home from the dealership (constantly varying RPM and speed through fourth, fifth and sixth gear). Using the shift light (yes it is annoying, but effective) will get 18-19 in city driving (and I use no highways to get the five miles each way to work). Friday night cruise combined with two dyno runs, on the same tank = 14 MPG
