...I finally found a manual steering Sentra in the junkyard last week! I grabbed the whole rack and connector for just $25 on half price day. Needless to say im excited and cant wait to get it in my car.
I just need to finish making an idler out of an old power steering pump and I'll be all set (too cheap to buy the eliminator kit).....
man I have the entire manual...send me a message if you are intrested

I'd also like to see the end result of this. I was always curious of how you keep the belt tight if the p/s system was removed.

I havent quite finished everything with the old steering pump yet, but this is my idea so far....
I had an old power steering pump laying around that came off my old motor. I took it apart and gutted the inside. There are two openings on the pump that have to be covered. The return side was easy. I unbolted the metal tube and traced the flange onto a piece of 1/8" thick scrap steel I had laying around, cut it to shape with a grinder, drilled two holes, and bolted the piece I made to the pump. The hard one is the pressure side. I was unable to locate a bolt that would fit those threads exactly. So I took a small pipe plug that was pretty close in thread size and soldered it in.
My idea is to fill the dummy steering pump with just enough fluid to lubricate the bearings so that it doesnt burn up and sieze when being used as an idler. I dont know, maybe I over thought it and should have just spent the money on an eliminator kit, but this was free. It cant hurt to try.
So I should be able to report back next week with my results and a few pics....
