: NX2000 transmission question...

Ok, i have a 1993 nx2000, it is currently an automatic but im converting it to a 5-speed. A local salvage yard has one from a 91 but they say that its different from a 93.

I'm assuming the difference is in the speed sensor: the 91 has a speedo cable while the 93 has an electronic speed sensor.

My question is: can i use the 91 transmission without too many issues??

As long as you replace the mechanical speedo sensor with the electronic sensor, you can use the 91 tranny no problems.

Oh wait, two more things:

1. make sure it's an LSD tranny
2. you'll probably have to use the manual LSD axles

im not sure if its that easy to fix, the speed sensors are different according to the parts store i talked to.

Speaking of LSD tranny, how can i tell if it is in fact a LSD transmission. It should be because according to my research all the NX's came with them...but how can i tell?

The speed sensors are different, in that one is mechanical the other is electric, but that only affects the connection point on top of the sensor. Everything inside the tranny is the same, so you can swap one to the other.

LSD tranny has a hump where the driver side axle enters. Also the driver side axle seal is larger than the passenger side (2x or more the size). All NX2k manuals should be LSD.
