I'm a noob when it comes to electrical problems. Mechanical I'm pretty good at. Been hitting the FSM hard lately...lil confusing at times. I recently swapped in another SR from a wreck. Odometer read like 207k. lotta miles but still kicking. Since the first time I fired it up it was hard to start when cold and idle is kinda rough at times(sounds almost like its missing). The first time I read codes I got 13-temp circuit, 21-ignition circuit, and 34 detonation\knock sensor circuit. Cleared all codes and 34 came back so that's where I started. The old one was toast so I got a new one, but still got that damn code. I tested the detonation sensor and wires per FSM and it all seems straight. My timing is all over the place because this code. Ive also tested injectors, AIV, TPS, MAS, Set base timing and idle, and they all checked out to. One thing though the FSM said was the compression is supposed to be at 185 standard, 156 minimum, with a 14 psi cylinder difference limit. I tested that when i first swapped it in(before i knew the specs) #1-120, #2-135, #3-140, #4-135. That's what i first got. I've ran three cans of restore through it since and havn't had a chance to recheck for any improvement. Also I usually have to feather the throttle for a few cranks to get it to start, but this morning for the first time a had to use Ether to start. Before i sprayed it i held at WOT and it was just sputtering like someone coughing with a terrible cold. Any and all help will be appreciated, thanks in advance. Keep checking for code 21, it might come back quick. I have a car here that keeps telling me all the time it has code 21 with 0 starts :S In my case probably both ignition housings had their best time.

I would replace the thermostat because it is cheap, I also would replace the temp sensor, I dunno if it is easy to reach on a lowport?

Maybe some sparkplugs, rotor, cap. Ohm test your cables but also check if they are broken and loose spark energy to the engineblock.

Set the timing and idle, maybe a new valve cover gasket, replace vacuum hoses that are old.

These are good starting points.
