Hello,

I'm pretty new to car-mechanics and thought that someone here could kindly help me out.

I was just driving my car today and everything ran fine as usual. I wanted to remove the stereo out of my car and put in another one. However, I never disconnected the neg. battery terminal. I went to start the car again and nothing happened- literally nothing except for that lovely, soothing beeping sound.

When the key is turned forwards I don't even see the dash lights come on, nor can I use the wipers, and the blower motor doesn't come on. (I believe these all normally work when the car is off, but with the key turned forwards). My lights DO work however and the battery is running strong.

Currently, the stereo wires are just hanging out of the dash touching nothing.

So I'm guessing something went bad, or shorted in the ignition system. Could the stereo wires cause this? I've checked the fuses inside the car and they all look good. What would I check for next? Are there any more fuses I should check elsewhere?

Thank you guys very much. I appreciate any advice.

Gavin

Try the battery fuse? its under the hood in one of the fuse boxes should be labeled. Worth a look anyway.

Hi!

Thanks for the suggestions. I looked at all the fuses and none are burnt out.

After reading some other posts, I'm starting to think that the Ignition switch has gone. Not sure how the car is wired, but could the switch get fried because of the stereo wires?

I suppose it could be the relays (ignition and accessory relays). However since everything doesn't work it seems unlikely that the 3? relays burnt out all at the same time.

When I turn the key forwards, nothing works at all - no blower fan, no signals, no dash lights, no radio, no power windows (yay! it's raining now).

Do you think it sounds like enough evidence to warrant buying a new ignition switch for about $60?

Any other ideas?

Thanks again!

could use a multimeter and check around its probably something simple.

Did you check the fusible links?

Hi All,

Ok, well it's still not running and here's what I've tried:

-Checked all the fusible links (inside car, in dash)
-Checked battery (Lights come on strong)
-Replaced Ignition Switch with a brand new one.

Are there any more fuses to check?

94sentraxe mentioned the battery fuse, however I do not see a battery fuse anywhere. Also I know power's getting out of the battery because the lights work (interior and headlights), and the beeping is there when the door's open when the keys are in. However, still nothing else works.

I'm not sure what to check next. Any ideas?

Thank you again.
