: BB headgasket probs...

When installing the head and timing chain, I noticed that some of the coolant passages on the OE bluebird headgasket weren't as large as the others.

The coolant passage holes are good around the #4 cylinder but the other 3 are only 1cm diameter holes whereas the actual coolant passage in the block/head are ~1in oblong holes. Would this pose a problem with overheating?

I enlarged one hole in the head gasket to a similiar size but it was a PITA and is not as clean as I'd hoped.

Any suggestions?

TIA

what are you thinking?!!

leave the holes alone. enlarging the holes will reduce cooling. the larger holes on cyl 4 cause most of the water to go up through cyl 4 area and travel back across the head to the outlet to the radiator near cyl 1. if you enlarge the other holes cyl 1 will stay really cool but the rest of them will overheat. because the water wont bother to flow to the far side of the head because it doesnt have to. depending on what hole you opened i wouldnt use the gasket you have.

I ordered another one anyway.

My car luck is not the greatest :( but I'm still gonna build this beast!

Thanks again.
