: what exhaust to buy???
94 se-r 10-05-2002, 09:06 PM Just bought my first 1994 se-r and just wondering what kind of exhaust I should get ???? I want to be some what quiet till I step on it I also don't what to spend a whole lot of money something around $300 or less Less ricey the better...
Any opinion helps thanks....
Monsoon 10-05-2002, 11:23 PM Just buy a nice muffler and have a local shop make you a 2.25" exhaust system. Piping costs around $75, and you'll save some money. You won't make the same power (lose a pony or two), but exhaust doesn't gain a whole lot on these cars anyways I believe. This way you sound mean, and save money.

What do u like about the pacesetter system for 2 1/4 pipe 4" tipe single cut ??? what kind of muffler not too loud but not in high rpm that often
DON'T WANT IT ANNOYING!!!
Brock Stepan 10-06-2002, 01:48 PM I have a Courtesy Nissan 2.5" Stainless steel catback with the "bullet" muffler and "tanabe-style" tip. I love the sound. Deeper than a Greddy but a bit louder (which I like, because the Greddy is too quiet) and the quality of the piping is MUCH better. The SS is a must if you're in the midwest like me. Plus, 2.5" is a good compromise for starting off with a few mods and eventually going with a small turbo later on.
My 2 cents.
BTW, you should be able to get a 2.5" catback from Courtesy for $560.

That's why catbacks are out of the question. The Pacesetter system has mandrel bent piping (plus), but the sound is loud and the tip rusts and looks like crap IMO (negative). You can get the Pacesetter exhaust system and a nice universal muffler and add a resonater in there to quiet the car down. That will probably run you over $300, though. That's why you're probably stuck with having the piping made at a local shop and just putting a universal muffler on there.

What do u think the stillen exhaust for 199.00 and a custom 2.25 piping would be good or to loud at highway speeds.....do I need a resonater with a custom piping ?????or will it sound good
se-r sam 10-06-2002, 05:57 PM Do you ever plan on going turbo? If so, don't spend a lot on a N/A exhaust.

Not sure because this is a 94 se-r with 103,000 orignal miles just got it only have 300 on it so far pretty damn good condition so I just want to get used to the car first with a few mods get use to the car first when this engine needs major work I heard I should buy a JDM motor and do the swap not sure how hard it is do u ???
does the JDM motor still pass CA smog????
want this car to be a daily driver....
94 se-r stock
se-r sam 10-06-2002, 06:14 PM If you want to go turbo, a BB swap is the most economical. IMO
I know a guy who turboed his stock motor with a T28 at 153K miles, after more than 100 drag strip passes with Nitrous! If the compression is ok, and the car has been taken care of, a turbo won't hurt it. I have 188K on my 92, I drive it harder than you could imagine. I will be going turbo over the winter, with a BB or Avenir longblock with a T3/TO4E.:D

I did a compression check on mine and it was 180 all cylinders
also had a leak down test down, the mechanic said i needed a tune up and boy did i need one ... car still pulls good
what was yours compression?????
se-r sam 10-06-2002, 06:23 PM I have never checked my compression, started to a couple times, but decided that I didn't want to know. If it was low, I would be worrying that something was wrong.
Sounds like you have great numbers for your test though.:)

thats a great price ??? is that the entire system or just the rear section or does that include the center and down pipes??
Sunny 10-07-2002, 12:43 PM The HKS Sport Exhaust is from the CAT all the way to the muffler tip.
Very discreet and quiet 60mm piping which is around 2 3/8 inch diameter.
i have had mine since 94-95? i forgot :D

I say start with the primaries and secondaries first, they're more of a restriction than the stock cat-back. So, I would look out for a used Hotshot header or you can pick up a new Pacesetter which is a knockoff of HS earlier generation headers for around $300. You'll make much more power than the 1-3 hp an exhaust will get you.
