OK. First things first, im not a turbo newb. ive been doing this for way to long. My current seup is far from a basic one. THAT BEING SAID. My girlfrend has decided she wants to boost her g99 p11. Its an auto, and WILL stay that way, all opinions on that are appreciated but it is what it is and its staying that way for certain reasons. She is lookng fo 300-350hp, and is wanting to see other poples opinions on setups. i know this is a commonly discussed topic, so ill try to specify her goals. RELIABILITY, AFFORDABILITY (she working with a decent budget, shes dating me....she understands how much this game can cost), and EXPANDABILITY, if thats even a word. Ive come up with a few budget builds that i like, but she wanted a second hand opinion, so we figured wed ask. my suggestion to her has been a de, or a det (de for 350 hp to me is just fine. that and you can get them CHEAP). Shes leaning towards a det for factory intended turbo reliability. Which is also a fair argument. ive had both setups, and have opinions on pros/cons with each. ALSO, were debating injectors. my solution is top feed 72 pd/hr, simply becaus they are cheap, get the job done to over 400 hp, and there are plenty of jim wolf ecus laying around. i know side feeds are always an option but used pricing and availability can be an issues. agai, she just wanted options. i know everyone seems to be doing tuning themselves these days.....i prefer jim wolf, as it is a plug and play "safe tune" option. I intend on switching to b13 harness to expand tuning options, and avoid cel's. (no obd compliance issues when inspecting cars in virginia. if that changes ill deal with it). Finally were having discusions on turbos....she will be using a stock avenir or gtir manifold, with a internal wastgate, and i suggested a gt28 or t28(i know the t28 is going to be limited to around 300, and she wants more). pricing again may sway her opinion. also considered a t2 flanged 18g. anyways.....i think youve got the idea.....Girlfriend wants a second opinion, and other options i have may not considered. shes gotten pretty turbo savy since shes met me, so give us a bit of credit....were not total newbs. and if it looks like im having prblems typing my kyboard sucks. BADLY. i guess t2 turbo selections for her under 600-800 used/new prices would help, and other setup ideas. i know its a bit vague....goal again is 300-350 hp, and RELIABILITY.

and yes i know a lot of you will say dont bother with an auto. it is staying that way for a good reason. ive heard a few stories of fwd sr20 auto trannies surviving in this power range. as a lot of our 5 speed trannies have issues anyway at this level, i think arguing the auto as a weak point is at least.....a bit pointless. Im hoping it will do well. only time will tell.

an important thing to mention is also that the stock motor is....sludgy. VERY. Got it that way,and we dont intend on keeping it. at a minimum, i plan on using a highport de from a b13.....i hate the lowport design, pain in the ass to work on.

I'll take a crack at this.
1. A small turbo like the T28 is going to be hell on your transmission. It's going to build TQ very fast. "If your transmission last the car will be fast because it won't be off boost when it shifts"
2. I think it would be better to get a step down harness made or bought so u can use a B13 ecu. You can pick up a realtime board for it or get a tune from JWT,Emance or who ever else.
3. I say stick with side feed injectors. Cost a little more but your going to spend that money to get a rail and regulator anyway. I'm not sure if u will get 300-350 reliably with the auto but I could be wrong. I would shoot for 660cc or 750cc injectors and Meth injection, 3" exhaust and downpipe.
4. Liquid to air intercooler or FMIC?

Id say gt2871 for the turbo because it reaches full boost at higher rpms than the gt28r and gt28rs which will be at the lower rpms from what ive read, I would assume that would help with the auto tranny. gtir turbo manifold, 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust from downpipe to muffler. injectors above 600cc. z32 maf. front mount with 2.5inch ic piping. walbro 255 pump. jwt tune set for 91 oct and run it with 93 oct just incase fuel was accidently mixed at the gas station, 3 bar fuel pressure. jwt s4 cams so there isn't a lot of torque in the lower rpms which again I assume would help from shocking the tranny. get redline shock proof heavy gear oil for the tranny. I would do a sr20det bluebird since pretty much alot of the sr20de parts will work with it. This is kinda going off my setup. sr20det bluebird u12, gt28r turbo, gtir turbo manifold, nismo 618cc injectors, z32 maf, jwt s3 cams, walbro 255 pump, jwt tune set at 3 bar fuel pressure and 91 oct (I run it with 93 oct) 2.5 inch ic piping with front mount, redline shock proof heavy gear oil (I have a b14 lsd tranny) UR water pump pulley. thats all I can think of off the top of my head for my car. did 302whp on the dyno. I wouldn't know about how well the auto is going to hold with that much power. Also do not go from your harness to a b13....it wouldn't be pretty...I tried to do that. try to find someone on the forums who could make you a step down harness that yellow4g63 mentioned. I had someone on the forum make me one for 100 bucks shipped which goes from a b14 to b13 ecu plug....it works great

t28 w/ S4's can put down 320whp @ 17psi IIRC

The gt2871r is good for ~350 whp and some headroom @ 16psi on pump gas, and it bolts onto the GTi-R manifold.

Add cams, race gas, and raise boost to 22psi = +400 whp (expandability)

I think a good condition DE should be able to handle that.

Good setup but not if ur on a budget.
