I went with a friend to look at an NX2000 for sale today. Asking price was 2000 but he dropped it to 1600 right away. Anyways, the body is in terrible shape, crappy yellow paint, but its only got 112 00o km on it and about 5000km on a JDM primera swap. It is in fact a primera motor for sure so the guy isn't BSing about that. Anyways, it had been sitting for a while and the battery was flat. It would not bump start. We boosted it and it would not run if it it was not connected to jumper cables, as soon as one was disconnected it stalled immediately. The guy said it needed an alternator, but it should still run off the battery right? She didnt buy it, obviously you're not going to buy a car you havent driven, but it should run with a charded battery even if the alternator is not working right?
Any ideas?
I was tempted to offer 1200 (thats all i have right now) and save it for later, chop it up and donate the engine, tranny, brakes, suspension and interior to a B12 or a B13 later on, but i dont know if i could go through with that kind of sacrelidge!

no, it would die.
if the battery was totally discharged, it'd only stay on while boosting, as soon as u disconnect it, it'd die.
i had alternator problem with my old car.
even if the alternator is working, it's not a good idea for it to charge a discharged battery anyways. alternator's job is to keep it fully charged, not to charge a discharged battery. it'd shorten the life of your alternator dramatically like that.

A fully charged battery would let you check and see how it runs at idle. I wouldn't drive too far if the alternator is shot. The battery gets drained fast.

yah it would, you would be able to drive it though, just not over a day....and risk killing the battery without the alt working, but if to just test drive and then get it home, it would be fine for that.( i had to do the same thing, was worth the 600 i paid though :D )

I wonder if it would get me from ottawa to toronto....
I'm thinking about buying it and parting it out. what do you guys think am i a monster?
