I am going turbo and have a question. How reliable is a the det. Say it's 40,000 miles from soko. How much more life would it have before a turbo rebuild. I wouldn't really push it like some of you guys. I wish I could but this is going to be my daily driver. I would drive it at stock boost most of the time.

I got a DET motor for SOKO myself and I wasnt very lucky. Within the first week it spun a rod bearing. Once I had that fixed it ceased. I guess I just got a bad one. I hope you make sure you get a good one. Good Luck

Wow that really must have pissed you off. Did they have some sort of warrenty. How many miles did it have on it.

I had no warrenty on it so I am screwed. I had only put about 100 miles on it the first time, and then the rod knock. The second time I only drove it for an hour, oil pump failed. Now the motor is ceased. I do have to say that SOKO is the best place to get a motor though. They have 1 of the best selections and prices

First things you do when Getting a DET should be to replace the main bearing. Unless you get one of the new avenir engines. But its still a good idea. And whenever you get a new engine in general whether it be a SR20DE or DET you should replace all of the pumps. When i did my DE swap, just about all my pumps failed on me within 2 months of the initial swap...just a few good ideas when buying the engine. Don't forget. Some of those engines may have been sitting for a while before you actually got it. And pumps can dry up/ or just get old and crusty from sitting around.

Hey eliterit,
Where could someone get some headlights and corner lenses like yours for a classic?

It is funny but everyone I know with a Turbo SR20 never drives their car 12 mothhs a year without trouble. (Even Roll Mod L's F-MAX car is down and he had it rebuilt ** turboing) If it something as simple as a spun bearing or worst, I have yet to see a Turbo SE-R on the road a full 12 months. Maybe it is poor maintence I donno know.

I think my input might be useful here.

I DET'ed my SE-R. It was a very clean BB SR20DET that came from a manual transmission car. I did not swap bearings either before the swap. But, I guess I'm lucky. This has been my only car up to about 1 week ago (bought another SE-R, hehehe). The swap was done in January and the car has not given me a problem since except for my alternator belt shredding. The car is down now, but not due to the turbo or the engine, but because that damned bolt that goes through the small rectangular piece in front of the alternator bracket broke! So, I'll have to extract that bolt now.

Other than that, she's had some overheating issues every now and then, but I have found out that my radiator is leaking.

The car has been perfect to me other than those small issues, which could easily happen to an NA SE-R. Best part about her, is that a DET acts just a DE in normal day-to-day driving. However, your commute can becomes tons of fun depending on the angle of your right foot. ;)

Furthermore, I know of other turbo SE-Rs that have been very reliable day-to-day. Larry's GT3037'ed SE-R, Irwin's T28 200SX, Ryan B's & Frank O's FMAX Stg II, the list goes on...

Yup Yup...about 4 days after installing the Pulsar components on my 100,000 + mile US SR20DE I drove that bad boy 1,000 miles to WA state...and about 4 days later drove it another 1,000 miles back. ( 10 hours straight )

Its been about 10,000 miles since the turbo has been installed and the car has not had any abnormal issues. Car runs really strong and gets pretty decent gas mileage when I keep out of boost. Now imagine having a motor that was built with a couple of extra "TURBO FRIENDLY" features..with a lot less mileage. I'd say your pretty safe.

* Now only if I could keep the car out of the body shop!:D *

Oh yeah I drive the car everyday! Gotta be a N. Alliance thing;)
