: Header opinions
JimmyNX2000 10-07-2002, 08:37 PM ok, i dont care what any of the Forum Nazis think of this, i will bring it up anyway. ive searched out the wazoo, but hey, i want more opinions. heres the lowdown. im getting the pop charger, and i want to do the exhaust also, i have the cash. though i will only be able to do the exhaust if i get the pacesetter header or no header at all. but, the pacesetter honestly scares me. reason? well, the paint is shit, the quality is poopoo. now, the hotshot is nice and all, but holy poopshoot thier expensive. but i have the money. but, i would be broke if i get that and the pop. and theres always the option of not getting a damned header. which im almost leaning torwards not getting one. just doing intake/exhaust. i want to know how long the pacesetters last in a harsh weather environment- rain/snow/hot summers etc. and is the design really that shitty? i mean comon, the thing doesnt even have a flex pipe while the stock one does? doesnt that say something? and that awful black paint. reading the SCC header article really made me look in disgust at the pace. i want any and all opinions
Serban 10-07-2002, 09:15 PM Jimmy: You didnt look hard enough for the threads. There are some that go on for pages.
I will say what I said in each one. IF you want cheap affordable power, get a PACESETTER. If you want nice shiny headers and 2 more hp, get a HOTSHOT.
And, the only reason I got an HS header and sold the PS is because I got it for a real good price used, less than a brand new PS, so it was worth it. I refuse to pay $400+ for a header when I can get one for 1/3rd the price which does the same thing.
Just buy a Pacesetter and when you have more money in the future, or find a good deal on a HS, get it. Thats my 2 cents on this topic.
Now, I know there will be a few out there who will say PS is crap, and dont waste your money on it. But do you drive with your hood open for people to see what headers you got? Well, you do what you want, its your money. Your brain will start doing backflips because you wont know what to do now. It was probably better if you didnt ask about which header to get. :) If you dont believe me, look at the HP #s in my sig, PACESETTER POWER!!
Chrissy 10-07-2002, 09:23 PM Remember there is more out there than just PS and HS. Like the $tillen. ;)
Search in the for sale forum and you can find a nice used HS. You don't need brand new. Most of the stuff on my car was used when I bought it.
LogicalRetard 10-07-2002, 09:30 PM My opinions never count, so who cares.
2wdBlazer 10-07-2002, 09:40 PM Bang for the Buck PaceSetter. If you want, just strip it and paint it with some super thermo high temp paint that won't burn off. My biggest seat of the pants mod was my Stillen Header (ceramic coated :p ). Header is a proven mod and it put me in the 14's.
WickedSR20 10-07-2002, 11:18 PM A header by itself will give you more than an exhaust will by itself, and it will be a noticeable difference. My 2 cents on the header controversy: Always try to buy quality in whatever you are buying. No you don't drive w/ your hood open, but you don't want to open it often to make repairs or fix something that was not right the first time. Like Chrissy said, there are quite a few options out there, so do your research and gather some feedback, but do not skimp on quality to save a few $$$. You'll end up spending what you save replacing the cheap part. I have seen more than my fair share of cracked PS headers (often on the same car more than once) that makes my opinion of them less than the other options. I have the prototype Stillen header that I bought from another forum member before they became available. That was back in '96, and it is still going strong today. That's why it's been on my car as long as it has. Had to replace the gasket once (original paper one made it 6 yrs!), but that's it. The HS headers are very nice and are dyno proven to give nice hp gains, and their quality shows in their product, which justifies the price they command. Again, my 2 cents.
SchmottySE-99 10-07-2002, 11:31 PM my personal opinion would be to forget the exhaust and get the horsepower from the hotshot.
I've been in the same boat, I could afford a pacesetter right now, but I want a hotshot cause, it's better quality, and it has a flex pipe, which I'm SURE nissan has a reason for putting on there. perhaps TORQUE? I had a dodge daytona turbo once and my downpipe flange was busted, so eventually the torque pulled the turbo away from the downpipe.
somethings gotta give sooner or later
slipper 10-08-2002, 12:14 AM the pacesetter is not crap! according to another list member, the black paint is only for shipping purposes. the mid range and top end hp increase is amazing! me and my friend were running approx the same time before he got his PS header and now his car pulls significantly harder with the header. dont even consider getting a stillen, it sucks!
Storm88000 10-08-2002, 01:08 AM Hotshot Gen 5 header. You get what you pay for.
808se-r 10-08-2002, 01:18 AM I believe in Pacesetter power... I have the "armorcoat" and it still looks great, and it was still less than half the cost of a new HotShot..
also, the last batch of PS fit really well, a friend and I ordered in the past few months and both of ours fit great, though we had major problems with one from about a year ago... not sure if they improved quality or we just lucked out...
SE-Rican 10-08-2002, 05:50 AM I say Hotshot!:D
JimmyNX2000 10-08-2002, 08:24 AM heh, thanks for the replies. well heres another Q. ive looked around some for a while, and the cheapest ive found a new hotshot is like 400. is that a good buy? its like off of apexperformance.com or something like that. any other good places to buy from? i still might consider the header. but no pacesetter, sorry guys, yes i may waste my money, but i dont care. you get what you pay for.
Serban 10-08-2002, 08:51 AM If SmoothDaddyFig is not enough proof that PS is not crap, then I dont know what is. 149hp PS header, intake and exhaust.
SchmottySE-99 10-08-2002, 02:13 PM another reason I like HS over PS is cause I've heard so much negative about the quality of the PS header. the only plus I've heard is the price.
Hotshot IS expensive, but there quality control is much better. and they only negative I've heard about them is a few shipping issues.
you do what you want, and I'll get a hotshot
Serban 10-08-2002, 02:47 PM I was on the SE-R mailing list for a while back in 98-99, and then I've been on the forum for a while. I've heard a lot of people complain about the HS cracking. I have a cracked HS which I got welded before I put it on the car.
HS is a good header yes. PS is a copy of HS...so PS is not crap :)
jon3k 10-08-2002, 02:57 PM i bought (am buying) a used hotshot. sure i could get a pacesetter for quite a bit less, but the paint peels, and more importantly, the headers crack! screw that ... i'll go with the quality parts and a couple more ponies.
go with the hotshot...my $0.02
NismoSER 10-08-2002, 03:42 PM 1) The two Pacesetters I recently bought fit perfectly on both of my cars.
2) The package that the header comes in specifically mentions that the paint it comes with is to prevent rust.
3) Show me a brand of header that has never cracked.

Jimmy, your 16 and have no money. But then again, you still never listen to anything I say. That's funny, cause you have a habit of consulting me before you consider buying something.....hmmmm.....
Serban 10-08-2002, 09:27 PM Jimmah has a habit of consulting EVERYONE, and he still doesnt know what to get :)
92_Sentra 10-08-2002, 09:44 PM Well Jimmah you need to take one of our suggestions and just do it, everyone is going to think different, so you minus well do what you want because you are talking about such a touchy subject since people got into 14's by buying a PS. Personally I think that the PS is worth it, and after 2 years if it doesnt look good anymore, buy a brand new one, and even then ur still under the cost of a hotshot.
