Put new belts in last Thursday. Drove to Chicago this weekend to help Ry SE-R1 fix his car. Was heading to Detroit on a business trip and got just over an hour away from home when on the interstate noticed my temp gauge pegged in the red. Luckily I have no cruise control so I am constantly looking at the dash for a speed reading. Shut car off, coasted into a closed truck weigh station. Had wife bring spare radiator and tools. Found that the upper radiator hose was not whole where the hose clamp connects it to the motor. Wife got there with tools, cut radiator hose a little off to and reclamped on good part of hose. Filled radiator. After much bleeding and playing it would still overheat like crazy. After more investigation I found the water pump/PS belt off the pulleys and frayed. Less than a week old! I then realized it was my fault- I had never rechecked them for tightness after installation. The thing had stretched over 500 miles and finally came off. Luckily there was an Autozone less than 20 miles away. Got a belt, a cigarette lighter powered big light, and headed back to the car to change the belt in the dark. Did so, drove car back home, checked compression, oil, and coolant. All good- no headgasket problems.
Don't let this happen to you! Retighten your belts after a hundred miles or so!!!!!
