A friend of mine just yesterday broke his hood cable while tyring to open the hood.
I was wondering, if that happens to our NX'es, how do we open our hood?
Any ideas?

on my 1600 the hood doesnt pop up anymore (hasnt for a while now) when you pull the release, but it does unlock it so that i can take my pocket knife out (for the flathead attachment) and slide it in right under where the nissan emblem is in the middle and pop it open.....:D kindof like a ghetto trick mod

Easy fix. On your radiator support (the bar running across the width of the hood) there is a rubber bumper about 3/4" diameter on each side. There's a thread cut in them; just turn CCW to raise it up some. When it's adjusted correctly, your hood will be flush with the fenders, and will pop up when you pull the release.
If your bumpers are torn up or rotten, you may need to hit the dealer for new ones. They should only be a few $$.

So far all the responses are about the hood not popping out. Thanks for the info on the fix for that.
However, my question is if the cable that is connected to the handle inside your car breaks, then how do you open your hood?
If I'm not mistaken, there are 2 latches holding the hood. One is the one activated by the cable (some springs are connected to this) and the security latch (where you push the latch to open the hood).
If the cable breaks....which happened to my friend...how do you open the hood?
Any ideas?

Oops... sorry, I commented on the hood-no-pop-up and forgot to mention your cable question.
Uummm... you could take a cutting torch to the hood :) Seriously, I don't know a good answer to that one. Did it actaully happen, or are you just trying to be prepared? I've never heard of one breaking in 8 years on the se-r list. I got the impression the friend's car was a non-Nissan?
The cable is routed under the fender, so one solution might be to remove the wheel and plastic fender liner panel. You could cut into the cable jacket and maybe get a hold of the cable beyond the break point.

True....
It was a honda.
Hehehehehehe....
As far as I know....and I've been lurking on the list for a long time...nobody who owns a se-r or NX has ever posted the question.
And yes....I just wanted to be prepared for the worst. Hehehehehe.
Thanks for the response though.

WEll, if the cable broke you would first need to get under the car in the front. You look strait up in the middle, you will see the latch. Then you will also see where the cable goes into the latch, there is an arm that it hooks to. You will need to move that arm in the direction that the cable pulls it, which is towards the drivers side of the car. This will release the hood. Then you just pull up on the release arm and open the hood! If you have any more questions, dont hesitiate to ask. This is the same for all cars, so it should work on your friends. Now replacing the hood release cable. You would need to take the drivers side fender off to replace this, as it goes though the firewall and then through the fender-well. Have fun!!:D
