Old guy

A couple of weeks ago, i had my car on a rack for a "professional" inspection for a HPDE. With the shifter in neutral, rotating a front wheel produced the same direction of rotation on the other wheel (VLSD test). However, inside the differential there was a very loud ratcheting sound, like a playing card in bicycle wheel spokes. Last week, I had the car on stands in my garage and the noise was not there. Anyone have this experience?
Tranny has about 200,000 miles on it and runs quiet, except that there seems to be a lot of backlash. Axles have about 10,000 miles on them. Running Redline MT-90.
