when ever i slow down to a slow roll, from about 2-7 mph, its nearly impossible to push the shifter back into 1st gear (it will go but it takes some un-necessary pushing)... but when im totaly stopped, or barely rolling, the shifter couldnt go into 1st ANY smoother... anyone know whats up with that?

This is common.. I think , it happens to me too..

but this was before I started to rev match while down shiftin.. you know the whole heel to toe bizzz..

from what I know,,, it's a good idea to downshift the right way to get the motor to the matched RPM's..

first gear is not really ment to be down shifted to.. but I dont care what people say... rolling in 2nd is a bitch..

So basicly .. if you can down shift, rev match.. that shit will slide in like buttah.... Give it a try, not only with first be smooth.. so will every other gear... no jumping, bumping.. just smooth buttah ..

I believe there is some type of lock on 1st and reverse so you cannot go into them by accident. Think of how bad it would be if you accidentally down shifted into 1st instead of 3rd. And you aren't really suppose to shift into 1st unless you are at a complete stop.
I at one time did now know about this and thought my reverse was gone since I couldn't get into it.
DO NOT fight getting into 1st gear.

Just gotta do a lil double clutch rev matching and it'll slide right in.

it hought it was just the B13's that do this.
it's harder to go into first while moving in my nx but in my friend's sentra, it's fine going into first while moving

nope my 89 240 coupe and 99 sentra do this its not just b13's

its a safety thing i think its due to the clutch interlock but not to sure

One of the small number of reasons for trading my 98 in was the fact I could no longer go into first on a roll. Up until a couple of months ago I was always able to just bump the throttle and go into first when the revs match. Lately, it started to always grind when doing this, even when the revs were matched. Having to go in second at a slow roll really sux because there is no power there. Fortunately, I no longer have the problem.

The synchros (sp?) are what prevents you from putting it into first. It does this to protect the gears. Its actually better for your tranny to rev match because it doesn't make the synchro's work as hard.
If when putting it back into first, it grinds, then you need some new tranny fluid. New tranny fluid and new shifter bushing did wonders for my second to first shifting.

Mine did it too, and it drove me crazy, until I replaced the motor mounts and put in the Redline.

what you can do is shift to second before shifting into 1st, but then i never shift into 1st when the car is on a roll anyway.

when on a roll and on nuetral and the light turns green, you do not need to shift into 1st, just pop it into 2nd, then rev it slowly to match and assist w/ the clutch. Our motors have enough torque to keep us rolling right away.

you guys say changing the fluid made it better, well i changed mine a few weeks ago, the old fluid came out and looked like total shit, i put a galon of coastal gl-4 fluid in, and that made the 2nd ----> 1st shifts even worse! will some redline cure my problem??:D

Mine did this until I adjusted the round thingy (I know) on the end of the clutch cable on top of the tranny in the engine bay.

i have the same problem but i found out if you push the Clutch all the way in it will go alot easier into first
