: nx2000 regrets...
Witt19 10-09-2002, 12:58 AM i bought my 93 nx about 2 months ago and i overall like the car, but a few things have been bothering me...
1. Is the sr20 reliable? i want to invest into my car but my step-dad is not too supportive since it's a 93...
2. The damn fifth gear!! i have ordered the fifth gear replace kit from courtesy and hopefully i will have little trouble doing the job myself.
3. IS IT WORTH IT? (kinda back to #1) i have been dying to get this thing faster, but i just want to know how the nx holds up. My mileage is at 115 k right now and i want to know if i need to expect future problems (besides fifth gear troubles...)
4. I paid 1500 for it, did i get a good deal?
thanks,
witt
NX-DET 10-09-2002, 12:47 PM sounds like you got great deal, depending on how the body is.
1993's are very rare.
as far as the sr20 being reliable? ask serprise in WV on the forum here.
he had 148,000? on his motor before he boosted it.
he put a t-28 with no mods to the engine at all.
at 10psi he's running 13.2's whith slicks. Thats fast!
it all depends on how the engine was taken care of before you got it.
Witt19 10-09-2002, 01:11 PM well, it seems to be in pretty good shape, idles kinda rough though, but i read on s-er.net that it was common for this to happen after a lot of miles. Hehe, now i just need money to do some more mods, and i wish the previous owner didnt install a wing *** now i would have to get the holes repaired if i wanted to get rid of it, more money, and the side molding is craked, i think he pulled it off to paint it or someting, any ideas on how to fill in a crack semi-permantaly?
silversx 10-09-2002, 06:32 PM Witt19,
First of all, you shouldn't have any regrets. Your car is probably still fresh. And the NX is a very rare vehicle. There were a supposed 293 NX2000's made in 1993, so be proud, not downed! It's a superb little car, with a strong engine.
And yes, you got a good deal for $1500 IMO. I bought my '93 w/169k for $4800, but the reason I paid so much is because it was extra clean, and I had to have an SR20-powered ride NOW, and couldn't afford to wait. It now has 199,940 on the clock, original engine, with the only problem so far since my purchase one year ago being a clutch replacement, and a pass. side axle gone bad. Love your car.
Anyway, if it's idling rough, check the usual things. Clean the EGR valve and TB out, check your MAF voltage, tighten your throttle cable. Maybe buy new OEM Nissan plugs, wires, cap and rotor, a fuel filter, and maybe an o2 sensor while you're at it. Brian Randall at courtesy will give you a good discount, since you're a forum member. If you're still getting hesitation, you may need to have your fuel injectors cleaned, or check your AAC or IACV valve. Look under se-r.net for "Cold Idle Fix". I'm too lazy to get the URL for you right now. :D
You may want to do a compression test to make sure the motor is still good. Pull your fuel pump fuse, let it idle till it dies. Remove all 4 plugs, and check each cyl's compression with the throttle wide open. Expect 170's across the board, with no cylinder having a variation of 10% or more from the next one.
Anyways, good buy. Give your car what it needs before you start modding it: A tune-up!
Good luck to ya.
Pretty White 10-09-2002, 07:50 PM Every damn seam on my car seems to be splitting. I have a 91. Around the door hinges are cracking. The seams around the door seem to be splitting. Everytime I solve 1 creek i get another one. This time I am getting a creek on the left hand side. I think the strut tower seams are getting weak. Around the strut tower one of the seams is seperating (the one behind the wheel). I have to carry it to a shop some time next year to get these seams welded. Not this year, I am busy trying to piece the car together. Also in my rear fender well, there is rust around the wheelwell. (inside the car). Other than that it is a good solid vechicle. I may trade up to a 93 or buy a 200SX SE-R next year. I love the NX but these body issues are really pissing me off.
sakerocket1 10-09-2002, 08:27 PM O.K. heres the skinny on nx production numbers for 93. I've been talking to Nissan NA about how many were made in order to get my car classified as collectable in the eyes of Ohio( no emissions and collector plates are cool too).In Ohio there has to be less than 15,000 produced. In 1993 there were 7528 sold retail, 6651 sold wholesale ( to racers or for fleet vehicles) for a grand total of14,179. These are straight from Nissan North America. They are still rare by any standard but not couple hundred rare. For example the sold just over 18,000 Altimas in july of 2002.
JimmyNX2000 10-09-2002, 09:26 PM Hey man, dont feel regret for having your car. be glad you do have it. because even though if the car isnt great( which it is!), you will get to meet MANY new people on this forum, and were pretty much all SR20DE Crazy. BTW, where are you located?
Witt19 10-09-2002, 11:33 PM i'm in orland park, illinois
jokergrin 10-11-2002, 08:41 AM Hey Witt! I'm your st.louis MO Neighbor! I have a 93 NX2000 and I LOVE IT!! My only troubles were a clutch at 80,000, and a starter last week (124000). Really easy fixes. I think you'll really enjoy your car. Plus, people will be like, "what the heck is that?" and you'll just smile *** you have something MUCH MORE RARE than a civic.
:)

jimmy has a point. when i got my NX it had 98,000 miles on it and that hesitated me. since then i did a hard core tune up and replaced my brakes. its about 11,000 miles older now and it still rides good. nothin too annoying [knock on wood]. i love the car. it's got great handling and you seriously meet some great people on this forum. i never got into cars til i joined this place.
Witt19 10-15-2002, 12:27 PM yea, same here, with getting into cars that is, and i just got emailed back from courtesy parts adn they offer 25% off retail for forum members!!!! :D
