i started up my car the other day and i heard a low whine coming from my engine.......... i thought, oh well nothing big "i'll look at it later"

When i came home that night, i pulled up to the garage and there was smoke coming out of my hood. I popped the hood and the smoke was coming from alternator or somewhere around there (couldnt really tell in the dark).

I have a brand new alternator and brand new belts( both two months old)

Now evrytime i satart the car, it only whines when i am in idle........... It might whine when i am driving, but i cant hear a damn thing because of the exaust.

HAS this happened to anybody else?????? is my alternator going dead??? pulley??

Did you retighten your belts? Might have come a little loose. Would cause both the wining at idle and the smoke.

the alternator has been on there for 2 months, and the belts are tight...........

it could possibly be one of the accessories going bad. the bearings could be goning put and causing the belt to slip at idle..but it frees up at higher rpm. check belts first..then go from there.

take off the belts and spin each by hand. you might notice something abnormal.

My belts whine too, but it is because I have my alternator rigged in, it has broken 4 tensioners, and it keeps snapping the bolt off that goes into the alternator too. once it is warm its fine.

check your power steering fluid...i have had the same problem with both of the SE-R's i have owned. I have to get my hose installed on my car yet....i have no time :( anyways it sounds like P/S pump has a lack of fluid. check that then report back :)

I think he's talking about a cover on the crank side of the engine that covers the timing belt and gears.
