Im looking to get my windows tinted but before i do i want to get my defroster wires on my hatch window fixed ive been doin some pricing around and its going to cost $730 is the cheapest because every shop says i have to replace the whole rear window,
since these wires are on the out side of the window is there anyway to do a cheap fix like with some solder or something? bcuz i would like to have my defroster working before reduce my visibility

Lemme ask you, is your defroster not working or is it the lines? Cause if it is the whole thing not working it may be the defroster harness that is broken, not the lines.

yah, theres just a little clip on each side that plugs on to like a female connector would, check that good first, make sure there is a connection...if not that check your climate controls themselves.. 730$ is a lot of money just for a rear defroster,

cant see how those lines would become bad either...theyre encapsulated pretty well to keep them away from the eliments, almost like a vacuum sealed bag.

i dont know wht you all are talking about, but my defroster lines are just like laying against the rear window on the inside, i can run my fingers across them, they are not "in" the glass like ive always seen them
yes my defroster works just some of the lines are broken a couple of lines at the top and a couple in the middle but its right in the wrong place thats why i want to get it fixed, but if its not worth it i wont

There are kits in catalogs like JC whitney that let you paint the lines back on where they are cracked or scratched off. It is a special conductive paint I think.

I think you just use a voltage meter to find where the crack is, then paint this stuff on using the template they give you. I will check on a part number in a few mins.

here it is:

JC whitney (312) 431-6102

Electric rear window defroster repair kit

...Includes:
conductive paint, decal, mixing stick (Wow!!), instructions

14YV7961P $9.99

This is an old catalog, so the price might not be exactly right.

i just ordered that defroster kit we'll see how it goes

do you know if when you get your windows tinted they tint the inside or the outside of the windows??

It is always the inside.

BTW, If you already have old tint you will save a lot of money removing it yourself. they charge as much to remove as they do to install.

nope there is no tint on my windows, and i dont know if im gonna even fix the defroster because the tech at the shop said that it will leave bubbles in the tint if the paint from jcwhitney is too thick

hey fonque, what kind of tint are you getting? if you are getting black you are ok...but when i got my windows tinted i had it done with the reflective tint....previous to getting mine tinted i had a window replaced when my car got broken into...so when they did the tint on the window that was replaced it looked kind of messed up because the newer window was different from the rest in the fact that it wasn't factory tinted like the other ones..(i never even knew my windows were factory tinted as i could not tell one difference between the new one and the old ones after it was replaced...) i could only tell after th tint was done because that window was a different shade than the others.

just a warning to you!

well my windows are the broze color from the factory and infact on my drivers side window some of the factory bronze was scratched which i didnt know was there till the window was tinted. And i didnt get my defroster fixed i left it alone ill just deal with it. I had my windows done at 20% which is not bad the legal limit here is 35% but 35% doesnt even look like its tinted.

What's the actual name of the defroster kit? I just went down to advance auto and the guy said he'd never heard of it.

Scud, can't you see if the button is pushed in? My light works and also the button is like 3mm further in when it's on.

just pull the switch apart, you will see the little lights in there. Goto Radio shack and get some replacement bulbs. I just did this for my hazard light switch, and it was simple.

hey...its been a while since i posted that...
but i still have the same problem....i've cracked the switch open...the bulbs are fine...
im thinking it might be a wiring issue from the harness itself...but i havent had the time to look into it

If it is the defroster lines in the window itself, check out a local junkyard, I got a perfect hatch, with glass, airshocks and everything for $150, and it matched the car! lol..
