i highly suggest you run some type of bov unless you hate your turbo or sometihng?

When I just did my avenir swap I was running with no bov for about 4 months with no ill effects to the turbo

Its comments like that, that scare me on public forums.

OP, do some research on what a bov does, and you will most definately want to run one afterwards ;)

Oh really have you tried running a vehicle with no bov? It was a temporary thing for me and I did it and there was never a problem. How come so many factory turbo cars in the late eighties early nineties didn't come with a bov? It wasn't invented yet? I'm pretty sure the OP doesn't intend on running his car without a BOV permanently!

No, I dont hate my turbo

I could ask a similar question. How come all cars made since the late 80's / early 90's come factory with a bov?

How do you know that from his first brief post? Based on your advice, he may have run without one and shattered his turbo to pieces

those 4 months without a BOV most likely shortened your turbos life.

Its like me going out and eating 50 cheeseburgers. Im not gonna die now, but if I die when Im 40 thatd be pretty stupid right.

Research compressor surge and stall and understand what that means and does to an assembly that's rotating at extremely high speeds and high temperatures.

Shortened the turbo's life? I ran that turbo for almost 2 years sold it and shipped it to florida and its still running around down there. And I ran it for 2 months without a bov not 4.

Why are you still arguing about this? :squint:

Arguing? This is not arguing! And I checked my pics from when I just did my swap and I did have the oem avenir bov on their what I was ruining without is an intercooler not that it makes it any better but whatever.

On smaller frame turbos it's honestly not that big of a deal to not run a bov when it's a super low PSI boost setting(5 psi and under). A large portion of companies such as GReddy, Power Enterprise and many others do not utilize a blow off valve on their systems. Many of which we have installed and customers have driven for years and years(Miata, MR-S, Civic, S2000 etc etc).

When running anything higher than that though it's absolutely necessary to run a BOV as macphee4/others suggested. It will ultimately cause a turbo failure in the long run due to the pressurized air causing your turbo to back spin(compressor surge).

Robert

2 years is but a mere fraction of something that is built to last over 20.

Sure you probably got lucky or the conditions you ran it under didn't damage anything because of a combination of low boost/low abuse and a robust design. Doesn't mean the theory behind your actions isn't wrong LOL

Again...go eat 50 cheeseburgers for 4 months straight and in 5, hell maybe even 10 years you can tell me youre still alive and kickin. But when youre shitting yourself and die at 50 when you couldve lived to 80, I'll get to say I told you so
