: Well Finally coming over to the SR20 Side..!!!!
TurboMiata 10-11-2002, 12:31 AM As I said over a year ago when I first logged onto this board was that I wantedt a sr20de car. Well I am getting a car within the next week. Here is how it went..
I just finished installing a 5speed into my 100$ civic hatch (93). It was getting fun to drive. I started looking at exhaust and motors for it. I started prepping a SOHC VTEC head to put on to the POS 1.5 DX motor. I started looking for DOHC swaps and stuff and then wised up. Why put money into a car that I dont want to build. I said screw that let me get into a real car. I started looking for a NX2000 but was having a hard time finding one. I spoke to Travis (unlucky) and he told me to get a 240. I have wanted one but I have allways liked the NX2000 (from RacerX's car, he lurks around the board a bit). I have wanted a S14 since I am not a big fan of S13 cars. But I said screw it. I can transfer a lot over to the S14 if I decide to get one later. So here is the plan.
Unless i find a NX that I love I am getting a S13.
Get a RWD DET with trans. I dont need ECU or wiring since I am going to use a TEC II on it :D. Run stock turbo for a while with a custom sheetmetal intake (hey why not :D), custom fuel rail, and some 450cc injectors. (Should be enough for stock T25)
Build A custom BIG frontmount.
J30 Rear End. and some more goodies.
Sound like a plan???
BTW any of yall know if the 89-90 cars are any worse for the swap if I am doing a TEC II with them??
Thanks
Danny
jnk5y 10-11-2002, 01:55 AM You might want to venture over to freshalloy.com. They have a lot of 240sx fans over there.
JayLew 10-11-2002, 08:44 AM I know in general the 89-90's are worse for the swap because:
They come with SOHC engines, so the wiring is different.
(parts of the dash cluster wont work with DET wiring)
And youll have to bend a new power steering pipe for it to work with the DET.
Why not use the stock 370cc injectors if you going to stay with the T25?
TurboMiata 10-11-2002, 10:35 AM Two reasons. From what I have heard the 370 injectors are almost maxed out at 10-12psi. I want to run the occasional 15psi. Also since I am making a sheetmetal intake why set it up for side feed injectors, and not the much easier to find top feed injectors??
Thanks.
JayLew 10-11-2002, 01:49 PM Have you looked into GReddys short runner intake for the S13?
(Im sure you could make one for less $$)
I thought the T25 topped out at 12psi?

About time, Danny.
Once you come to our dark side, you'll never go back. ;)
Keep us posted on the buildup!
GameDay 10-11-2002, 09:58 PM TurboMiata,
You are well known on the miata boards, as I remember you when I had my Miata for a brief period. I also recall my buddy John 'the Blue Hen,' here in Omaha, talking to you about doing a similar FE conversion in his Miata. I think he was planning to visit you over the 4th of July, but ended up spending too much time over at Flyin Miata in Colorado. :)
BTW, how is your FE Miata working out? Did all your accessories (a/c, heater, radio, windows, etc.) end up working with that set-up? I was wanting to buy a Miata shell and drop an inexpensive sr20de in it, if the accessories will all work, and if it's a simple swap? You're the only one I've known (other than American muscle cars) who has successfully switched 'families' ... i.e. - Miata with a Ford engine (maybe it's a Mazda, and I'm totally wrong), but regardless, is it possible on the cheap? How about dropping one in a Civic?
Ok, enough of this aside, I know of possible 2 nx 2000 for sale around here, as I wanted one as well. 1 is black, and needs some tlc to the body...scratches, side skirts sagging, etc. Maybe they'd take $2,500. The other is a friend of a friends, it's red, and if I recall, sweet looking. She just moved back from Florida and is looking for a bigger car.
If you're interested, let me know, and I'll see if I can hook you up, or take some pics with my digital. Hit me up with an e-mail at mmanahan123@yahoo.com.
Thanks! :)

PS - and, if you know anyone looking for a VW Corrado G60, I've got one of those too (shameless plug)! :D
scmser 10-11-2002, 10:25 PM Nope, FE3 Mazda. Well Mazda and Ford are one in the same. Ford bought Mazda japan. Guess what became of Mazda korea? Yep, KIA. Add that to your automobile family tree.
I saw an FE3 build up into a Miata, sheetmetal intake manifold, turbo'ed, is that you? Someone posted it on the 323 GTX yahoo group. If that is you, congrats. The FE3 and the SR20 are hands down the best 2 liters ever. Good choices.
Rockwood 10-12-2002, 01:46 PM Stock turbo...yeah right. :D
Once you start boosting an SR20, you dont want to stop. Before you know it, you will have TWO 10 second street tire cars, and will be looking for a truck or something else that you wont modify, well, hopefully. That is the same thing that is happening to me, i am currently looking for a nice, stock truck, and as soon as i get that, all hell will break loose on my car. Hopefully, i will hit 11s on stock block, and see where it goes from there.
Congrats on the decision, I think the S13 will be a better choice than the NX, the tranny in the S13 sylvia is much more capable of tq than the B13's.
The 89-90 is a little harder than the new ones, though the 89-90's are generally MUCH cheaper, and have the added benefit of increased likelihood of coming with a blown motor ($900 cars are PERFECT for motor swaps)
check out www.sportcompactcarweb.com as they have a complete writeup of an SR20 install in a 89-90 S13.
Big John 10-12-2002, 08:23 PM Yes that is my FE3 Powered miata. THanks for the props. It is going to sit for a bit while NHRA gets their head out their ass and figures something on the Street tire class.
As for a/c and stuff like that with the miata It was a race car so I figured that I didnt care about all that suff. I did custom coolant plumbing and sorts for better cooling, but I could of added heater bungs easy for that.
BTW John Abbot (B12DET car) has a Highport head at my shop about to be flowed. We will see how the SR20 stock flows compared to the FE3 and how the SR20 with .5mm oversized SS valves, and ported flows compared to the FE3 with .5mm oversized valves and ported flows. It will be interesting.
About the Greddy how much are those intakes?? Just for shits and giggles. I am probably going to make one though since I have the facilities and knowhow to do it (it will be tested on the flowbench though with different runner lengths)
Also how much power can the 370's handle. I know that the turbo will die a quick death above 12psi, but it is only on there till i figure out what size T3/T4 (thinking stageV with .63 housing and a 60 trim :D )
Hey Hodshot I have a POS S10 truck in New Orleans right now but I dont trust it to drive back to Little Rock (where I am living and working now) I know exactly what you mean.
More to come later....
Danny
TurboMiata 10-12-2002, 08:33 PM OOps.. I was logged on as John. Everything said in Nismodrivers post was from me. :D
Danny
Yellow4g63 10-12-2002, 09:13 PM 89-90 swap. AC won't bolt up to SR block so u have to use the SR A/C or 91 A/C. Power steering can work but if u don't want to fight it u can get lines from 91+. U should make new A/C lines since the Stock onez will get burnt from the heat. The Tach won't work. u have to get one form a 91+ car.
TurboMiata 10-12-2002, 09:31 PM I should be able to run the TACH signal straight from the TEC II to the back of the TACH. Most tachs work on the same pulse signal..
Danny
Yellow4g63 10-12-2002, 09:51 PM I forget what car did that 2.0 motor come out off?
TurboMiata 10-13-2002, 03:37 AM My 2.0?? The JDM version of the Probe and MX6.
