Hi....
Finished installing axle seal on passenger side of my NX. Now it's leaking just a little bit. Noticed a bit of a tear on the axle seal. Pretty sure it was caused by the dust shield which is bent a little on one part of it. Don't know how that happened. Also...I know the axle seal in installed properly - flush with the tranny install. And it wasn't leaking before I drove it. Only after I drove it.

Anyway, I'm going to change the oil seal again. I called up NissanAutoParts.com for the part....closest to me but they don't know what I'm talking about.

Can anyone tell me if I need to put the dust shield on there?
What is the part number for the dust shield for the NX?
Is there an aftermarket part for it?

FYI...it's for the passenger side for a NX2000.

Thanks

Melvyn

i had a similar problem when installing a new clutch. When we lined up the axle to go back in, we must have caught the seal and it began to leak. Anyhow, a nissan mechanic friend of mine, came over to fit thye new seal and told me to leave off the dust shield. Its of no particular importance. To date, theres been no problems with any leaks.

That happened to me too. My dustshield came off my rebuilt axle. Everyone including the rebuilers says it's not important. And by the time anything goes bad it is probally time to rebuild the axle again so just let it dangle or cut it off. Cause it will not go back in no matter how you try to hammer, force it back on.

The danger is, if you try too hard to put it back on, then you could damage the new seal, and youre back to square one.
