I have been reading these forums for the past couple of months now trying to find a se-r. I am in negotiations for a 96 200sx se-r with 80k on the clock. Its black with a sunroof. I can get it for 5,800. Is this a paritculary good deal or should i try to go lower?

Also, the car appears to be in very good condition but the bolts on the right side in the fender appear to have been slightly stripped. The car does not appear to have been in an accident. Are there supposed to be any stickers or numbers in the inner fenders under the hood?

Thanks a lot,
Mike

It's not a bad deal, but try to get down to $5000 flat if you want an excellent deal. Just take your time, but you gotta be really nice to him though. 80K miles is not too bad for 96, but make sure to see the engine condition. look at the kind of oil filter he is using (you can tell if it has good kind, he probablly took good care of it), open the oil filler cap and see inside the valve cover. If the owner took good care of it, it should have no build up at all. Look at the paint surface real carefully under the sun and see if there's any sand mark on it. If it has been repainted, you will usually see overspary, fisheyes, dust in paint, etc.. pretty easy to tell.

I think the cars made 97 or later have stickers with VIN number on fenders, hood, doors, etc. Not sure about 96 model.

Good luck!!
