Did you break the stud or just strip the nut? I over torqued one of mine and the nut just stripped to hell. I tried to remove the stud to no avail. In the process of gouging the stud, I was somehow able to get the nut to tighten on it. I loctited the shit out of that thing and it hasn't leaked (knock on wood). The tensioner nut only needs to be tightened to like 5lbs of torque, so if you can get something in there you should be okay. If you broke the stud itself, you will have to remove and replace it. I'm pretty sure that will require dropping the motor.

Good luck

Edit: I should've payed more attention and noticed that you actually broke the stud. Ouch!

Well, I fooled with mine while it was on an engine stand. I "suppose" you could do it while it still being in the engine bay, but it might be a PITA to get a drill in there.

At any rate, you will still need to drill it out.

redsentrase-l,
sounds like you and i have quite a few problems alike. first the skipped tooth on the cam install and now the broken timing chain stud. i overtightened mine b/c it was leaking and broke the stud also. sadly, just brought it into the dealership and asked them to tap it. 5hrs of labor later(at $80 an hour, you do the math), they drilled it out and put in a bolt. taught me not to mess around with the car again. i'm not sure if there's an easy way to do this. the space is so limited in that area. i think the dealer told me that they had to remove the p/s pump to tap the stud. when you get it done, remember to replace the timing chain tensioner gasket. good luck!
