I raced in the IDRC event this past weekend in Phoenix, Arizona @ Firebird Intl. Raceway. I would have to say this weekend was a total success besides the fact that I have been killing myself for the past week, as well as my good friend Ben B, to get my car ready for the event.

Last Tuesday my "new" stock SR20DE arrived from Soken that I had ordered on Monday. Tuesday night I pulled my built motor and installed my stock SR20DE. Finished it Wednesday morning about 7am after working on it all night and went to turn the key and it wouldnt stay running. Called up Enterprise and got myself a rental. Wednesday night Ben came up to the shop and got it to run good enough to get it to his house to make up some new I/C piping since we had switched to a high port motor from the low port motor. Thursday, I rested! Friday I finished my I/C piping and did all the little stuff like vacuum lines and b/s.

Gates opened at noon on Saturday and we decided to put my S3 cams in the motor Saturday morning about 9am. Ben and I installed them in about an hour and went to IDRC Saturday.

I entered into the Quick 16, and had nothing but problems all day long. I could not get the car to boost over 16psi without it missing really bad above 6000rpm. My best run Saturday was a 12.84 @ 107mph. Good enough to qualify 13 / 13 in the Quick 16.

Sunday morning we decided its time to fix that nasty misfire. Gates open at 8am, final round of qualifying is at 10am. We started to work on the car and fix the miss at about 815am. We install a MSD Blaster 2 Coil and a MSD 6A box. Not knowing if it would help we finished the car about 930am and head to the track. Boosting like mad on the way there it seemed to fix the problem.

Get to Firebird at 955am and slick down and I make the final qualifying with 10 min to spare. Turn up the boost and run. 12.1 @ 120 with no missing at all running 20psi on the stock motor! Good enough to quailify 11th / 13 for the Quick Class.

Quick 16 becomes Quick 8 since there wasnt enough cars in the field, so I get bumped along with a couple others.

I decided that I might as well run some brackets and time trials. Turn up the boost a bit more to 22psi and busted out a 12.06 @ 123 mph. Ran a couple more times and hit 12.07 and 12.08 and then a 12.30. That is all the runs I got for the day but it was fun. Our four car crew ended up running a event called the SR-1 Team Challenge and we won hands down over the other 2 teams. Got enough money from that to pay for the weekend of racing.

Thanks again Ben for the hard work, no sleep, and the help with my car this weekend... I couldnt have done it with out you!

Nice numbers!!!! Not bad for swapping out a motor and heading for the track.

Those are some great numbers! Compared to your 11.9@119, did you spin at all going 123mph? Was there any major differences from your built motor to your stock DE??? Have a good one and great times!

The "built" motor was a test. It was assembled with 86mm stock bore Wiseco pistons and we found out they they dont really seal up to well. Its better to start with a fresh bore and use 87mm pistons if you are going to put some in. The motor did great for a while and just recently started to get a bit low on compression.

The stock motor was a "test" as well. Ben and I were trying to see just how much boost a stock motor could take. Its still running strong after 9 passes all above 20psi! I would not recommend it to anyone, however it held up!

The only real differences between my built and stock motor is the head. The built motor is a low port and the stock motor is a high port from a 91-93 car.

I was having some traction problems but the 60' times were still really good @ 1.80 consistantly.
