: structural sunroof cap

I will be making an aluminum sun roof cap soon for my future se-r cup car. I would like to go beyond attaching to the roof
metal and go as far forward as the front roof support (through the roof and the place where the roof support is
spot welded together, as far back as the center roof brace, and to the sides all the way out to the beam between
the A and B pillars is spot welded together. This is aprox 20" f-r by 36" l-r by 1/8" thick.
Further I would like the front edge to curve the same as the windshield (instead of just a rectangle). I would
like to make a template and then have this cut on a waterjet cutter for perfect dimensions (and maybe a beveled
edge). The holes for the rivets could also be precut for continuity and ease of placement.

Any suggestions? Anyone else want one while I am at it?

Assuming it's for a B13 I'd love to have one. Let me know if you can accomodate me and at what price.

Yes, for the B13. I am getting a quote from the waterjet place now. I am shooting for around $50-60 (if I can get 6 orders) with 1/4" rivets included and the "big daddy" rivet gun available for loan.

Also the SCCA requires atachment "of the same material as surrounding metal" meaning this would NOT be legal in SCCA but IS accepted in a nasa series and probably autoX and other forms of racing.

ok. i can't read very well. i don't understand the placement. it would remove the sunroof glass with aluminum? will it bolt up right there, or, as it sounds, extend past that to the outskirts of the roof? i don't understand somehow. would you be able to still use the headliner? or is that out? either way, for 50-60 i am very interested

Well I wouldnt think you would install this if you still have an interior but you could. The parts I am talking about are not visible with the head liner in. This would rivet or bolt on top of part of the roof to cover the hole left when the sun roof is removed (usually race cars).

OK, I have a price, $60 plus shipping. The aluminum will be curved in front to match the windshield curve and the corners will be rounded. You will need to drill your own 1/4" holes but 25 1/4" rivets will be included. I need 5 orders to procede. I am motivated to get this done quickly because I have a big hole in my roof and dont want to get rained on!

I will also purchase a rivet gun big enough to handle 1/4" rivets for the buyers to use and ship to the next person.

For an example of what I am talking about see here.

Mine will be thicker for safety and rivet into a more structural location. This is not for looks! I am only planning on making an ugly thing look less ugly! I have the template made and will have pictures available tomorrow.

Pictures are up! This is a cardboard mockup and the tape isn't holding to well, the gap won't be there on the finished product. In some photos I am pointing to the spot where the rivets will go through.
