: Top mount w/hood scoop or FMIC
NismoNx2000 10-14-2002, 03:09 PM Ok, im in the process (long process) of going turbo. I need some opinions for performance reasons, not for looks as much. Im starting off with a bb intercooler and t25 setup on my current de. I got it because my nx is cramped for space and i wanted to cut as little as possible. So, should i top mount it and do a custom functional hood scoop, or front mount it instead....i want the one which will yield me better gains. TIA! John
se-r sam 10-14-2002, 04:51 PM Front mount it. When you get the need to upgrade to a bigger turbo the piping will already be there for a bigger intercooler.
llaprad1 10-14-2002, 08:57 PM Would front mount still be the best solution if a T25 was *always* to be used (i.e. no upgrade, ever)?
TUNED200 10-14-2002, 09:21 PM t25 here with bb ic fromt mounted, works 100x better up front.

charlie2020 10-14-2002, 09:51 PM Top Mount Interheated here.
1) I have no heat shields on.
2) I have no hood scoop.
3) I only have one fan working.
4) I have a stock radiator.
5) The only time my temp needle went 1/4 past normal is when I free boosted.
6) Other than that it never goes more than half way and when it does start to move to the have way mark is because I was dogging the shit out of it but it come down fast.
7) I does get hot as fuck though and I can tell that it looses some horse power when it get heat soaked.
8) As far as sitting in traffic or idling is concerned the needle will drop below normal (very slightly) if idleing for a long time or just sitting in the drive way so it doesn't over while standing still.
9) I should be better off when I get both fans working + hood scoop + heat shields.
10) My car almost has zero freaking lag it is comparible with my stock SR20DE a matter of fact everyone that has driven with me says when I floor it that mother f'er just goes with no hesitation.
No heat shields

By no means am I trying to say top mount is better, OK.
I have no problems with my current setup but I will put a hood scoop and heat shield and things should cool considerably.

I doubt that would happen, if you were satisfied with "stock" you wouldn't be here.;) But if you were going through the trouble to turbo your car, why not get the best performance you can from what you get.

No, seriously, I'm older, so constant need for speed isn't that important to me. I would keep my car NA, but I like the idea of all the turbo gee-wizery.
Plus, I don't want to sacrifice my clutch/tranny.
Thirdly, upgrading from this point on would be, for me, FMIC, exhaust work, intake manifold, ballbearing turbo.
And lastly, I'll be getting a second SE-R soon to keep mildly NA. Plus a 510 after that.
That being said, FMIC seems the best way to go. (Which I already knew based on past threads, but needed re-enforcing)
SERprise In WV 10-14-2002, 11:17 PM For an NX2K, you may want to look at how Julian down in Texas (forum name is Dr. Kwak) did his IC and pipes on his NX2000:

I really like the way Julian did it. Stealthy and effective.
Just another way of doing things. :)
NismoSER 10-15-2002, 12:03 AM John, this is what i was talking about :)
Greg, I saw when you posted this link waaaaaaaaay back when, just couldn't find it again.
I'd like to do the same intercooler-in-the-fender thing for the stealth look. What would you think of attaching a fan to it, radiator fan style to help flow more air through it, seeing that it would be in a more enclosed location than a full on FMIC??

I just want to say, your setup looks sweet.. Also can you Pm me with some info on how well the car runs with the SAFC... I read some of your posts but if you could tell me some more.
silversx 10-15-2002, 12:46 PM Ahh, Side Mount. Very Nice, Dr. Kwak. I have never seen one of those before. I was thinking if I were to turbo the egg there would either be a SMIC or TMIC. JGY and I talked about this, briefly.
That is very, very stealth. I was going to post about doing a SMIC when I saw this thread, but didn't want to sound stupid. That's very cool. Is that a DSM intercooler, or what? Kickass..
