: SR16VE Information?
pulsarvzr 10-19-2002, 06:26 PM Hi,
I am located in Jamaica and I'm thinking seriously of purchasing a JDM Pulsar VZ-R (with the SR16VE). There is little information about this engine anywhere online that I can find and I would like to understand more of what I am getting into before I take the plunge :) I'm coming from the drop-dead reliability of a SR18DE and I wouldn't want to get into a maintainance/reliability nightmare.
Anyone out there that can point me to a good source of standard maintainance information for this engine? Either online or personal experience would be great.. :)
Thanks in advance..
Sirnixalot 10-19-2002, 06:59 PM bwoy you an mi ina de same boat! I lookin for one from IBC Japan right now. I also emailed alot of japanese used car dealers about them, So far i only got one reply that said they will get more info on a possible sale on monday. It gonna be had no rass to find one a *** as there were only 200made. If any of these people cant find one i gonna get a 00 G20 to pimp but it woulda been nice to be called the man with 2 pulsars :D and bad ass pulsars at that!
oh an for the info check the FAQ section at the top of the main VE page, it has all the HP and TQ specs. Its the N1 spec that comes in the VZ-R. All the VZ-R is needin is teh SR20VE crank for more torque
pulsarvzr 10-19-2002, 07:49 PM Hey.. Thanks for the reply.
With only 200 N1's and 300 N1 version II's made, it may be tough to find one that is in really good condition - hasn't been raced/abused etc. That - along with possible parts availability/price issues - is why I have deliberately shied away from an N1.
I am thinking of purchasing the 175ps version which is not as difficult to find as an N1. Case in point, the first dealer I called here in Jamaica has one coming into the island, having already brought in a few in the past months. Even though it's not a Type R killer, it should be plenty snappy as a daily driver.
Thanks for the pointer on the FAQ.. ! I'll keep looking to see what else is out there that can guide me on what this engine needs to keep running in spec day to day.
civicdragon 10-23-2002, 02:28 AM Why not just get the Sr20Ve? that will be a type-r killer =)
Schmotty 10-23-2002, 10:39 PM does anyone know what type of transmission you need for an sr16ve?

Read your PM. ALL sr's can interchange the tranny's from one to the next.

He's not buying an engine. He's buying a car with the engine. IIRC, that car doesn't come with the 20. But he sure is lucky to be able to get any car with a VE already in it.

If you are asking about maitainence schedules, I believe following the same schedule as any other SR would be fine. Of course some argue for more frequent oil changes. SR engines really are pretty reliable, maintainence-free engines even when slightly modified.
Good Luck.

Okay I reread that part... Now all he has to do is throw a 20 crank in there and turn it into a Type-R Killer =) Unless it's an NSX-R =)

They'd probably run about the same... remember, those Honda engines are almost race bred. They dont get a lot of gain from I/H/E as we would get with our SR's..

so what's their 1/4 mile time?
civicdragon 10-24-2002, 03:02 PM between, 13.8-14.5 depending on other mods like timing, weight reduction tires etc...
b12sr20ve 10-24-2002, 04:50 PM hmmm.... seems the b series have found their matches huh!!!!
98sr20ve 10-24-2002, 09:28 PM I ran a 14.6 with a crappy 60ft time. If you look at my weight the 1/4 speed indicates 180whp is was exactly what I had at the time. Using the same HP calculator I should be running a 14.2 which backs up what several dragracer's told me. This was with IHE on a stock SR20VE.
TeamNISSAN 10-25-2002, 03:51 AM Go get them Steve! ;)
I too almost can't wait until the weather is getting better and I can get back on the race track! :)

yup! its true... you should be running 14.2. you're an auto-xer and you don't really drag right? .4 secs is not bad at all if you don't really drag or you're a first timer...the takeoff/60ft and power shifts really matter...lightening your car more maybe and go for a twin plate clutch...and practice..hehe
i have this batchmate in highschool who bought this 4 door civic SI-r with a b18c5 engine and Spoon components...he sould be running high or mid 13's, when they gauged his car on the runway, he only ran 15 secs excatly or more...and what's dumb about him is that he pumps the clutch pedal while accelerating! he said pumping the clutch pedal will make the car faster..hahaha he's dumb.:p

Thats me. I am going back when I get a chance. I have only been twice. I improved from a 14.8 down to a 14.6. I have some Ecsta V700 (autocross tires) that weigh about 1.5 pounds more then my street tires/wheels. I am trying to decide which wheels to use. Bothe are 205/50/15's
b12sr20ve 10-25-2002, 09:44 AM lower your tire pressure to 20 psi...it should help. KING STEVE. hehehehe:D
