: DET O2 Sensor is the same as what?
Blue93G20 10-20-2002, 10:54 PM I'm buying a motor here pretty quick and it will becoming with a full wiring harness (uncut) and ecu. So i was thinking of just running the DET wiring harness with the O2 and maf and all, along with the ECU. I know the det one is the same as the de one minus the AIV plug and i could just use that but whats the point if i have a full jdm one i could use and run with its maf and o2 sensor without any cutting or splicing. My only question is if i want to replace the o2 sensor, what car in the USDM market has the same one?
Also if i decide to use the USDM one with the JDM ECU and MAF with i have any complications, i'll also be running it with a SAFC. Thanks -Jeff
Loe Lyf 10-21-2002, 08:27 AM If you run the harness, you'll have to rip out your old one and run the new one. Why??:confused: Just use the existing harness, it'll be a lot easier.

It is a 100 times more easier to take your harness out of the car and put it on the engine out side of the car then drop the motor in, this way the only thing you have to do is feed the connectors through the firewall which is really easy and plug in your ECU and your done with that part.
It take me no more than 30 min from the point I hoist the engine off the ground into the car to secure all motor mounts and cross member and feed the wiring harness through the firewall. Of course I got the tehnique down though I've done it more than a few times.
By putting the harness on while the engine is out the car and bolting the tranny up to the engine along with starter and all other bull-shit you would probably save you self about 2 are more hours.
Blue93G20 10-21-2002, 02:20 PM Anyone know about the O2 sensor?
As for pulling the harness its not that hard to do like charlie said, it wouldn't take that long to rip out the old one and just put in the new one.
charlie2020 10-21-2002, 02:22 PM To answer another Q about DET O2 sensors on SR20DE ECU's:
I have a W10 Avenir SR20DET and I have been using the Avenir SR20DET O2 sensor for a total of about 6 months, 5 months on my NA SR20DE then switched it over back to the DET when I swaped engines and it works just fine with the DE ECU. They both USDM and JDM O2 sensors woth the same during the propaine test also.
But,
I haven't had the oppurtunity to test the U12 BB O2 sensor which I believe is different because of its shape. But i'm curious as to why it would read A/F mixture different than the next O2 sensor.
Anyways thought this might be helpful:
U12 = different looking O2 sensor
U13 = Same looking as USDM
W10 = Same looking as USDM
W11 = Same looking as USDM
RNN14 = Don't remember what this one looked like
I know for fact that the W10 and W11 O2 sensors work fine with the DE ECU, and I bet the U13 does to.
scmser 10-21-2002, 05:25 PM Most Nissan O2 sensors seem to be the same. The 300zx, the Altima, the Sentra's, all appear to be the same. Save yourself some money and buy a Bosch O2 sensor for an SE-R. Nissan just uses a Bosch unit and stamps it Nissan. $40 vs. $80+ for factory. The above statemant does NOT apply to 99+ Nissans as I don't have much experience with them.

The RNN14 O2 sensor is smaller in diameter than the US DE O2 sensor. Just thinner, really:

The top O2 hole is for the original GTi-R sensor. The bottom hole is for a US DE O2 sensor in the downpipe. You can see the difference in diameters.

Thanks Greg, so it is the same as the U12 O2 sensor then, makes sence because both the GTi-R and U12 BB were in production during the same years U12 BB 89-92, GTi-R 90-94. Probaly why some people report problems of there BB ECU not working with USDM O2 and MAF and some not having any probelms at all with USDM MAF and O2.
Calum 10-22-2002, 02:52 PM Thats the same thing JGY told me when I bought my det. If its a avenir, the o2 will work just fine; if its a gti-r or U12 redtop, use the de o2 sensor.
charlie2020 10-22-2002, 04:11 PM JDM O2 sensors that are compatable with USDM SR20DE ECU:
U13 = compatable (large type) w/SR20DE ECU
W10 = compatable (large type) w/SR20DE ECU
W11 = compatable (large type) w/SR20DE ECU
JDM O2 sensors that are not compatable with USDM SR20DE ECU:
U12 = not compatable (narrow type) w/SR20DE ECU
RNN14 = not compatable (narrow type) w/SR20DE ECU
