: Stock DE to Stock VE (newbie)
don0017 10-23-2002, 04:42 PM Hi everyone,
Your gonna have to excuse me, I'm new to this, still learning (just like how everyone started). But alright, I wanna swap my engine to the sr20ve. I currently have a stock DE in my hood. I wanted to get a complete stock VE engine. I'm wondering what kind of a trouble I would have since they are both sr20 engines. I'm also using an auto-tranny. My purpose for this engine is for touring and driving around for everyday use. From the info I've gathered, Nissan America has done a couple things to the DE engine on my car:
-Lengthened intake manifold
-Reprofiled intake camshaft
-Lighter weight roller-type rocker arms
-Lighter weight crankshaft
-New piston rings
-Modified swirl control valve
Yea, like I said i'm just starting and dont know much yet. Any response and feedback would help and if it would benefit me (performance wise) if any from the list above is exchanged into the VE engine. Excuse my newbiness, thanx
Xsanity 10-24-2002, 12:11 AM as far as i understand it you wouldn't be able to swap any of those parts over to the VE engine....
the VE engines are related more closely to the 2000+ SR20DE engines...
don0017 10-24-2002, 07:07 AM Actually, my sr20de engine is a 2000+ engine. (2001 to be more precise, the very last year the sr20de will be available in America, according to what was said online) But thanks for the info, just wonderin what trouble i'd run into now.
BAR classic 10-24-2002, 07:30 AM Not to be a jerk, but I found that reading the Sticky on this forum and running through a few searches answered most of my questions which were along these lines.
AFAIK, you would be the first to swap it into a 2001 auto, so you'd be in uncharted waters on the tranny, but everything else should be similar (not identical) to a 200sx swap.
Hope that helps and welcome (not that I've been here more than lurking that long).

don0017 10-24-2002, 10:38 AM Thanx everyone, and "Bar" no offense taken :-D
I did actually read through the sticky and the other posts before puttin this thread up. I was just lookin into specifics because like u said, i would be the 1st for a 2001 sr20de in an auto tranny form and it sounds a bit iffy.
From what I've gathered, the lift control system is controlled by the ECU. And I haven't seen the sr20ve in non-CVT tranny. So besides switchin the ECU, it seems more like the tranny must be switched as well, and i'm wondering about compatibility. Yup this is dangerous uncharted waters, and my only reason for auto tranny is *** I do a lot of driving, and I kinda dont wanna bother with the manual at times. Well, thanks for ur feedback anyways everyone.

You are making this WAY to hard. The ve will bolt right up to your auto tranny (or any other sr20de tranny), If you use the DE inj/maf/ecu it will run just fine. Your redline will be the same as what you have now and you would need to activate the cams using some rpm activated switch's that is all. VOLA, VE attached to an auto with the stock de ecu. No big deal. Been done before. If you want convert to a 5 speed then that is totally un-related to the VE. If you want to use the CVT then learn how to read Japanese, fly to Japan and get the FSM's (more then 1) and bring all that here and swap the VE ECU/wiring harness into your car with the CVT tranny also. Now that would be uncharted waters. So far no one in the US has been able to use the VE ECU and someone I briefly talked to in the Philippines was have issues with his VE ECU swap. It’s not worth it if you ask me.

what???...someone already did a VE swap in the Philippines???
can you tell me who that person is??? whta about his VE ECU issues?? what happened? can you tell me more about this...i wasn't aware of this person.
i think Teamnissan was able to use the VE ECU with the 5 speed manual and no problems....
TeamNISSAN 10-25-2002, 03:37 AM Yep I'm using the stock VE ECU with my DE harness on my VE engine and everything almost just clamped on! :)
My Set up:
VE ECU
VE Engine
DE Harness
5 speed manual
We had to change the plugs on the injectors, make new wiring for the solenoids and then a couple of other small changes.
