What does it mean if I have oil in on my plug when I check my spark plug?

Which part of the plug has oil?
The part outside the chamber?
or the part inside the chamber?

If its on the outside of the plug:
-just dry it up using lots of Q-tips
-get some RTV gasket maker GRAY
-smear RTV gasket maker inside the hole all along where the Valve cover meets the head.
-All done.

If its on the inside of the plug:
-oh shit

im not really sure what you mean, inside of chamber or outside of chamber. While the plug is in, if you take a flash light and look down into where the plug goes, you can see oil around the outside of the plug.

The seals around the spark plugs wells are leaking between the valve cover and head. First thing I would do is make sure all the valve cover nuts are snug. If it still leaks you may want to replace that seal under the valve cover.

I had the same problem when I changed my valve cover and put in new gaskets.

You can do it right and get new gaskets and replace them.
( it still might leak )
Or you can "rig it" and just plaster RTV gasket maker around the spark plug seal.

Just be sure to get all the oil out first.
I used paper towels and Q-tips.
Use needle nose pliers to get the Q-tips way down in there.
Be sure to clean the spark plug wire too.

I would "rig it".
It doesnt sound serious.

"RIG IT AND FORGET IT":D

Can I get RTV at any autoparts store or what? So when I take out the spark plug wire and am looking down into the whole at the spark plug about an inch from the top of the valve cover that is where it looks like it is leaking. I think this is where the valve cover meets the head? Its only leaking from one spot not around the entire ring. So just put some RTV stuff around the whole ring to be safe? Or should I get new seals? If so, it wouldn't be a valve cover seal would it b/c that only goes around the outside it doesnt seal each individual spark plug whole. What seal would be the right seal for that if needed?

Any Auto store will have the RTV. Get Ultra Grey.
Put the stuff around the whole ring.

You can get a whole Valve Cover Gasket set from Discount Auto Parts. It includes the V/C gasket, the O-ring gaskets for the sparkplugs, and the V/C bolt grommets and nuts.
All for $29.99

i just bought a 1994 se-r with 103,000 miles and had to replace the valve cover gasket which is the rocker gasket and i replaced the oil rings which were not leaking that much. I was told that you should use sealant on the half moons on the valve cover gasket but not on any other part of the gasket. I did not because the factory one didn't have any on it. It should take you no longer the 1hour and half if that. If you are going to do that you can do u PVC valve to. Also it was pretty easy just make sure you tighten it good and re-check around 300 miles

pacesetter header
downpipe custom 2.25 exhaust
warm air intake

I'm actually replacing (trying to anyway) my spark plug seals right now because I found oil on the firing side of one of my plugs. First off I think Nissan gave me the wrong seals, but I didn't realize this until I got my valve cover off for the first time. The plug seals are connceted together and are compressed between the VC and the head and look kinda like: O--O-o-O--O. Nissan gave me "Gasket-Rocker Cover Part # 13270-53J13". These are 4 individual seals about an inch in diameter. They fit nicely around a sparkplug, but I don't think thats what they are for. If these things are what I need to use, where are the old ones? Nothing comes out with the old plgs, and I can't see anything down in the plug well.

Secondly, "If its on the inside of the plug: -oh shit". Could someone explain this to me cause this seems to be my situation?

Thanks for any help

When you have the valve cover off you should have seen 4 holes were your spark plugs are when you pull the cover off there should be 4 rings resting on the engine or on the under side of the valve cover in the grooves..my valve cover part number was 13270-53j05 and my oil rings part number is 13271-53j02 I hope this helps.

Thats what I thought...I think the seals I got from Nissan are for a 1.6L not the 2.0L. All is well though. Car is back together and running fine.
