I have a b13 classic, and it is an automatic. When I am driving (or parked for the matter) and I pull the ebrake handle up, nuthing happens at all. I have come to the conlusion that a) there is sumthin wrong with the ebrake cable (near handle or where it engages at rear brakes) or b) the rear calipers are frozen (since it is an auto, and rarely get used). Any other suggestions, or is it just one of those 2? And is there any way I can check. I was thinking of just taking the rear tires off, and with the caliper in my hand, pressing on the brake pedal to see if the caliper engages, is this a good solution?

if i am not mistaken, the e-brake is a drum style brake on the rear wheels. if you take off the rear tires, you'll see that the rotor has a drum on it. you need to take off the rotor to inspect the shoes of the e-brake. you might have worn down the padding there, or your cable may be too loose.

The ebrake on Sentras is not a drum, its part of the caliper. Is there any resitance when you pull hte brake? If the calipers were frozen, you would know it. Lift on corner, and have someone turn the wheel, while you push the brake, or use the ebrake.

after further inspection, the ebrake does work, but only when i have it 50 to 75% of the way up, it locks completely. SO like you said, it may need to be tightened. The problem is that i hear an alomost like grinding noise coming from only my rear driver side brakes. It only happens when I am slowing down after going like 10mph, and it almost sounds like it stays on when I am driving really slow (under 5mph). Ill inspect the pad tomorrow. But thanks for the advice.

Don't step on the brake with the caliper off, you could blow it up. Like eric said, jack the wheel up and spin the tire and pull the ebrake and test it that way, not with the caliper off. If its a rear drum then you may need to adjust the adjsuter on the back or it may be frozen and not letting the pads adjust(dont know if there is drum or disc). If it is drop dont step on the brake with the drum off either. Good luck.
