I was wondering how long it should take to install my HS intercooler and piping kit along with my turbo and manifold. I will have a shop and a lift but I am not a real skilled mechanic and my friend helping my is a newly converted GAY1.6 to SR20 guy so he isn't an expert either. Just wondering how long this will take. I drilled and tapped the block for the oil return, tapped into the oil pressure sending unit and have the front end of the car off. TIA

I'd say give yourself a long weekend... It really shouldn't take too long, but it's all the little things. Such as stuck bolts, hard to reach nuts and bolts, dropped nuts and bolts which you loose, etc. With all the vacuum lines, you'll want to zip tie them down to make sure they don't slip off.

Better yet, 3-4 days to be safe.

Damn are you serious? I was thinking more like 6-8 hours. I have the front end off and I dont have a header or manifold on right now. I was think that bolting the turbo/ mani on = 1 hr and putting the dp on 1/2 hr then all the ic and piping might take 3 or so hours. Hmm maybe I should re-think my plan. Thanks

Just a reminder, don't forget a new exhaust manifold gasket or you plans will be all for not.

Got it already. I have a friend that has worked at a local Nissan dealership for 8 years and he is the parts manager so I get the hook up!

Don't forget... oil lines, water lines(assuming your turbo has them, what are you puttin on anyways?), vacuum lines, might have to extend the O2 sensor wire, what are you doing about the EGR?, all those freakin hose clamps and tee fittings, torqueing everything down right, gauges? It helps to take off the fans when putting the turbo on and off. Heck, might want to take off the radiator too. And watch the hard A/C line, I broke mine while doing my turbo install so I had to get a new line and compressor(broke the mounting point on the compressor).

Ues anti-seize on the exhaust manifold studs. For the oil line fittings and stuff, some guys like to use teflon paste. I prefer teflon tape(have to make sure you get stuff designed for petrolem products, it's heavier duty than the regular plumbers tape).

Like I was saying.... I have the bumper, radiator, fans and old header off already. I have installed the gauges inside the car and have the lines from JGY installed already. I am putting on a T88. What the hell do I have to do with the EGR? Is that the black box.

a T88 is slightly large. But ok. To each his own. The EGR you can leave hanging there. Just pull the tube away from the manifold. What you have to do is plug up the vacuum ports from the EGR to BPT valve.

MY T88 is going to be bad as hell, I'm going to kick some Hon-duh ass! JK I am doing the bolt on T25 onto my DE. Don't I have to remove the whole black box? It looks like my manifold wont fit with the box there.

nah, just buy larger hoses for it and move it somewhere else.

I tried to bolt on my turbo and manifold but that gold tube coming out of the block is in the direct way of my wastegate. WTF? what do I do with that gold tube? It is the one that is right next to the "SR20" stamp on the block.

put a thickj screwdriver, and rotate the whole thing towards the block.

Yeah, you gotta bend that tube. I'd use something like an extension or something in there, something that fills up the hole better so that you don't deform the tube to much. And be careful when you bend it... you definitely don't want to break it!

OK bent the tube!!! Thanks for the info. Don't know what I would do without this forum. Now I just have to figure out the rest of the install.
