: Finaly got my Stand Alone installed...
unlucky 11-09-2002, 05:39 PM Well.. I finaly got around to getting my car going. We installed a F.A.S.T. Speed Pro engine management system, and completely removed the stock harness and JWT ECU setup. I also switched to 72 lb injectors. It runs a MAP sensor, so I can now run an open BOV with no problems. And, no maf.. so a filter sits right on the turbo. We road tuned it for about 4 hours tonight.. and it hauls some major ass! 15psi on pump gas hazes the tires 1st - 3rd gear. I can't wait to see what 20psi on race gas will do. :) Much thanks to Ben Benavides and David De Anda for helping me over the phone! Here's some pics of the install..

I also got some 22" M.T. slicks on some 15" rims.. I'm going dyno tune it next week.. I can't wait to see what she does.. ;)

jbanach77 11-09-2002, 06:01 PM dude that stand alone will make alot of difference. but know this it will not take a liking to being driven everyday. i know alot of people who run stand alone and they claim the same thing "the car should not be driven daily". i know i do not drive my car daily anymore.

Xsanity 11-09-2002, 08:15 PM Sick Travis!!!
so i'm guessing no more problems under high boost?
SeenSense 11-09-2002, 08:16 PM Why cant you drive it everday??
nsracer 11-09-2002, 10:00 PM Awesome Travis! I'm glad it worked out for you!! I got home sort of late last night and noticed you had called but, thought it was to late to call you. Gimme a call so we can chat man!!! Good job man!!!!
skyliner 11-09-2002, 10:47 PM It looks like a bomb exploded in your car in the first picture. :p You removed the stock wiring harness and made another for the Speed Pro? Sounds like alot of work, good job getting it up and running.
One of the other Travises? or mabye Travi?

SENTRA1909 11-10-2002, 01:23 PM Congrates!! It must fill good to have it done. Did it come with a pre wired harness? How do you like the tuning functions of the speed pro?
art_from_ct 11-10-2002, 01:33 PM Congrats man ! Nice ingenuity.
spdracerUT 11-10-2002, 05:09 PM I dunno..... I would think that a good stand alone will run perfectly fine if it's tuned correctly. Motecs and Tec III's ain't cheap so they better run correctly! And if Motecs are good enough for real race cars, they should be fine for any street car.
TurboMiata 11-10-2002, 05:55 PM I have run a TEC II for over a year on my miata and have had no drivability issues. Hell my untuned TEC II drives better than Travis's car did with the JWT computer. I think Travis made a wise decision going with the standalone. Properly tuned it will be fine for the street.

unlucky 11-10-2002, 07:07 PM The setup is from Ben B.'s old race car. And then David had it for a while on a friend's car. So, the harness was there for the SR motor. It was a little messy when we got it though, so my friend and I took about 4 hours taking it apart and taping everything up like I wanted, then loomed the whole thing. I was amazed at how easy it was to install and setup. I'm having a few issues as far as it running rich, but that's to be expected until I can get it on the dyno. I hope to break into the 400whp level with the .63 housing.

Xsanity 11-10-2002, 08:28 PM when are you going to work in the dyno time travis?
congrats again!
unlucky 11-10-2002, 08:43 PM lol.. yeah.. I can't find time to take a shit around here.. much less work on a car.

killase-r 11-12-2002, 10:11 AM *** up travis this is jason great work on the stand alone and you deffinately need those slicks post up so pics of all you work so everone can see whats gonna happen to my beast and i wanna ride when io get up there.

kenley_ser 11-12-2002, 12:49 PM hey whats up just some quick questions
where did you get the stand alone ecu and for how much??
Is it a piggy back setup or alone with no other ecu
I have the JWT turbo program 3 bar with 370cc injectors I want to get a stand alone, I was thinking either SDS or GReddy Emanage
unlucky 11-12-2002, 04:46 PM It's a stand alone... meaning the factory ECU and wiring is gone. SDS is garbage from what I've heard/seen.. Emanage is a piggyback that gives you SOME tuning control over your stock ECU. If you are looking for a stand alone.. I would go with the SpeedPro.. ( www.fualairspark.com ) or the Electromotive TEC III or an older II if you can fine one. I bought mine used with all the sensors for 1350.00 from David De Anda. A new setup with all the sensors will run you from 1800-2500.00 depending on which one you go with.

ITR_KILLR 11-12-2002, 04:53 PM this may be a dumb question but, do the TEC II's or TEC III's come with a base map, or something? how do you initially tune it.
I've never seen a standalone system used before, (ya, I'm from SC, whadaya expect) can an average person tune the TEC systems on the dyno?
unlucky 11-12-2002, 08:18 PM I'm not sure about the TEC systems... Danny could tell you more about that. On the SpeedPro.. after you enter a few parameters, like engine size, cylinders, injector size and MAP sensor type, it makes a base map for you to get the car started. From there, you just tune it how you need it.
ITR_KILLR 11-12-2002, 09:31 PM i wonder if a dumb*ss like myself could tune a standalone w/ my basic engine knowledge, and enough dyno time??????
SucKit 11-12-2002, 09:45 PM A lot of the stnadalones now offer autotune. You just hook up the w/b O2, scale it accordingly and just drive. This thread confirms how easy it can be if done correctly... http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=316594&page=1
