: Header Problem
akes200ser 11-14-2002, 03:39 PM I started my car yesterday and well it sounded awful, i knew that i had an exhaust leak somewhere, but i wasn;t sure where and well i don;t have a welder at my house to i took to a local muffler shop and they found that where the exhuast turns down to run straight back. the collector i believe but anyways they welded it back but they told me that it might hold forever or for like two weeks. I want to just buy an aftermarket header and forget about it but i am not sure which one to purchase. i have 500 dollars and like two weeks. what should i do???? which is the best or which is the worst???
slipper 11-14-2002, 05:06 PM go pacesetter, there no sense in spending $300 more for a couple more hp from the hotshot(my opinion only although the hotshot is indeed good). the pacesetter definately makes noticable gains especially in the mid and top end. stillen is crap. most JDM tubular manifold require you to use your original secondary pipe therefore the JDM one is kinda out of the question. engine importers usually throw away the japan secondaries to save space.
AaroNX 11-14-2002, 08:28 PM I say go with the hotshot. It may only be a few hp stronger than the pacesetter, but like most of us, one day you will want the most hp possible out of your car. Even if it is a few. I also agree that the stealin is crap
akes200ser 11-14-2002, 11:38 PM i went to my pro shop and they said that pacesetter didn;t make a header for a 96 they told me it only went up too a 94 if they do what is the part numer
hotshot what is the differences in the generations and are they esasy to install
silversx 11-14-2002, 11:53 PM If you like high-quality and a lasting product with the best power gains, go for the HS.
If you say you're gonna go turbo and junk the header in a year (and don't care about the appearance of your engine bay) then get the pacesetter and be down 1-2hp maybe?
You'll feel a performance gain from either, and it'll fix your problem.
jomama 11-15-2002, 12:24 PM how much did the garage charge you to weld the leak shut? i think i have an exhaust leak and have resisted taking it to the shop until i get the firewall engine mount inserts in.

It's the same engine. No big deal.
slipper 11-15-2002, 02:13 PM even though the hotshot makes a little more power on the dyno charts, that does not at all mean the pacesetter is a slug. the $300 saved cause buy a set of pulleys, an intake and a set of LED windshield washer squirters(good for 20hp). the $300 saved can easily make up the 1 or 2 hp lost from the different headers. as for the quality, just sand and paint the PS with some silver high temp paint and use an OEM gasket. however if you do insist on a high quality expensive piece, wait a couple months and get an AEBS header cause the AEBS makes the most power. if you cant wait a couple months, get the hotshot.
slipper 11-15-2002, 02:16 PM the difference between the 91-93 and 94-up in the AIV bung. you can get a plug for that or you can even have it welded up
Calum 11-15-2002, 07:50 PM Every hotshot I've seen (including mine) has had cracks welded up at least once. YMMV.
Its311Pete 11-15-2002, 08:37 PM For those that have a Pace Setter and wish they would have gotten a HotShot, has anyone thought of getting there Pace Setter Powerdercoated? If I had it to do all over again I would buy a new Pace Setter for $150 take and get it powdercoated, $100-$150 and you would have a nice looking header for several years to come.
On the cheap you could get the top part of your header done around $75-100 and still be saving $$$.
Just a idea.

what is the AIV bung, where is it and how do i get a plug for it and does plugging it hurt the motorbut the rest will bolt right up

Just get the Pacesetter Armor-Coated for a little more and call it a day! :D
About the AIV bung, i couldnt find a plug for the damn thing and i looked everywhere. After driving a few days sounding like a motorcycle, i realized the reducer for the o2 sensor in the old manifold fit the hole perfectly, and i also remembered that o2 sensor plugs were readily found.. problem solved.
san-man 11-29-2002, 11:57 AM Has anyone had problem with the flex portion of the hotshot header. Right now that seems to be where my leak is coming from and I have not decided on what to do.
Mautai916@yahoo 03-21-2005, 11:38 AM SSAutoschome for $150 shipped on ebay

Hi, writing you from Costa Rica, I already bought a space setter header for my SR20DE not installed yet (200sx se-r), My expectations are obviously increase the hp and definetly torque, actually I have a JDM (header) manifold, some friends told me that I wont feel a big diference with the space setter they just keep their faith on Hotshot or OBX, some people here said the difference between a the space setter and hotshot is not too much, anyway if the space setter works better than my SR20 JDM header (manifold) that would be enough for me, now a guy is instaling that header I gave him 10 metters of great ceramic coated fabric specially designed for exhaust systems, probably enough to cover the header and down pipe.
What do you think???
91B13DET 05-29-2006, 05:48 PM Or just do the smart thing and dont do any of what these guys are telling you, and just go get the leak fixed for now...(20 dollars or so) then save the money you would spend on a header and exhaust (little piping) and wait to go turbo because you won't be using any of that exhaust for turbo!!....just an idea....
ekizz 05-29-2006, 06:18 PM ss autochrome
camarok 05-29-2006, 09:31 PM Not powder coated.... Ceramic coated.... it takes the heat better.
You can ceramic coat then powder over that to get the color you want :) If you have any questions on that let me know.
I think I'll be going the pacesetter way eventually.
