Well, I said I was going to do it and damn it I did it. Now I just have to cover up the hole with some aluminum flashing or something.

A good 8/10 lbs is gone. :D

I can feel the power overwhelming me!!!

Honey, whatever you do, do not put the groceries in the trunk.

Did that really weight 8-10 pounds, or are you guessing?

What else have you done to remove weight? My SE-R Cup car is down to 2150 with less than 1/4 gas in the tank.

NO hard corners for me!!!!

Only Straight Line Performance.

I guessed 8/10 pounds.
But I am a VERY good guesser.
I have taken out and weighed just about everything.

The rear quarter windows weigh 4.95 lbs
each.
The side power mirrors weigh 2.5lbs
Non-powered side mirrors weigh 2.3lbs

All the sound deadening plus the steel bracket under the steering wheel, and the rubber firewall carpet weigh 48.2lbs

That car is going to look like a go-cart when you are done. That is if you ever get to a point where you can't find other ways of weight reduction.

Hey Figgy, does that cause any type of drag from the air that flows under the car? Oh I finally saw those vids on you site, that one agains the GSR was funny.

you missed some!!! What about all that metal in front of your newfound trunk hole??? I say if you gut out the trunk, your A/C and powersteering has to go! Get that thing under 2000lbs!!

Aaron,
Its going to be the meanest Go-Kart in town!! :)

PSSSSHHH,
Im going to cover it up with aluminum sheets. I just have to buy the stuff.

FastNX,
All that metal in the front there holds the rear suspension. If I cut any closer to it, I might TOTAL my car!!! Im still debating the whole power steering deal. I love power steering and A/C!!

gsr20det, what have you done to lose the weight on your cup car? I still have my A/C. Im not pulling it out just yet. But right now Im at 2,134lbs. If I lost the a/c I think I would definitely be under 2,000lbs. That would be nice.

Geez, Jon. I guess it's a good thing they don't do vehicle safety inspections in our state anymore.

What's with the 8-10 lbs? You got a newborn at home to test against?:D

Funny thing is, I'm sitting here trying to think about where else you could lose weight(other than the obvious a/c and p/s). Eh, I have kind of a gross suggestion... never mind.

Course, I'm also thinking about the kinds of wild life and Florida that could crawl into your trunk/car now... "possum, the other white meat".

Later,
Mark

Well maybe it's time to go on a hardcore Atkins diet. Figure if you get your weight down to about 85lbs you might have enough strength to push the clutch in, but the G-force from accelerating might make you pass out.:D

That hole in the trunk probably improves airflow in the cabin, so now you don't need the A/C:D

LMAO! Your nuts man.. Jon I was pondering this thought. You should get a hole saw and make some holes in the back bumper to reduce drag. I say about 2.5 inch holes. I have seen alot of the faster cars down here in SOFLA do that. They say it helps! This could be a next project.

PS. Wear a seatbelt in that thing. Its like a feather. POOR POOR SE-R. What people do to go fast. I still love ya though Jon! :D

As much as I think its cool your car weighs so less, I can't see how the car will handle like it used to. The rear of the car is so flexable as it is, cutting part of the truck out, makes it even worse. For a drag only car, this would work, but for a car that is driven on the street, no thanks. If you had a full cage in the car, then the cage would help. I would rather have a slow car that is comfortable, than have a fast car that is not.

what we need to do figgy is take the ac out and then run some ducting from the fender area into the car. this would be direct flow a/c and once the car is moving fig the p/s is no issue. Plus its so damn light already..lol. I swear you need to invite us to one of these great disassembling trips you get on. Also lets make a sheet alum. trunk or try. i mean you already have pins holding it on. Lets also make a sheet aluminum hood and lexan for rear and side windows. you also need a fuel cell

as far as the hood, why dont you cut off the rest of the support underneath it? and then hood pin it at all 4 corners, you could say bye bye to the hinges as well as the hood prop rod
