: Factory oil and water lines

As far as I can tell, everyone replaces the factory turbo water lines and tees into the heater hoses. Looking at these pictures http://redlineau.com/gallery/album54/aaa leads me to this question.... why not keep the factory line and tap into the block?

And while I'm making a monkey out of myself, what about doing the same with the factory oil feed?

Hopefully the answer isn't too obvious. :)

Probably because some people don't get the DET oil/water line with the turbo kit.

because most of us are more comfortable cutting up heater lines than drilling a bunch of holes into the block. doing the one for the oil return was enough for me, thank you.

That's what I plan on doing. I will do this with no pistons in the motor though. The engine will also be out of the car, to make things easier.

i know where the oil return is.

is the top left banjo the water/oil feed/return?

just use the throttle body lines. look here:

How wise is it to cut into the colant lines running through the throttle body, when you live in a cold climate like MD. Don't the colant lines prevent the throttle body from freezing closed?

You don't have to cut the lines and I recirculated them between my turbo and TB so they both get coolant. :)

they are supposed to, but if you think about it:

the only time when the heat of the engine isnt making the throttle body hot anyway is when your car has been sitting for a while and has completely cooled off. now, when your car has cooled off, your coolant is ice cold anyway, negating their usefulness. i dont think that those things would help you out in ANY situation. when your engine is warm, there is plenty of heat conducted from the still heated intake manifold. and when it is cold, cold coolant wont warm up anything anyway.

I thought the real reason for it was to keep the TB clean. hmmmm maybe I don't need to recirculate it......

nah, just to keep it warm. have you ever hopped in your car on a really cold day and had the throttle body frozen shut? if no, then unpluggin it isnt something to worry about.

The consensus on www.se-r.net is that the lines keep the throttle body clean by melting the sludge that forms.

Luckily I live in sunny southern California, but I imagine if I lived in whatever icy hellhole you all call home, my throttle would still be frozen after sitting all night, whether it had a little coolant flowing around it or not. :D

funny you mention that. ever since i rerouted my water lines, i havent had to clean my throttle body, it used to be dirty every 6 months to a year, now it is spotless after 1 year of turbo. could be coincidence though.
