I am curious, If any of you had the oppertunity to purchase a GTi-R here in the states, what would you be willing to pay? Please let me know 2 prices. One price for just a track/show car that could not be driven legally on the streets. and the second for a fully insurable/titleable one that could be driven every day without having to worry about the cops:)

Also if you could purchase one, what are you looking to get out of it, i.e. what would be most important thing to you, millage?,cosmetics?, color?, or would you just be happy to take what comes along as long as it is 100% opperational?

As much input as possable please.

Thanks

Track-only car (not of much use, really, in SCCA specifically): $3,500-4,000.

Legal street car: $5-7,000 depending on mileage, condition, etc.

It will be VERY difficult to get a car loan on a GTi-R, as there are no NADA loan values for them in the US, btw. One would need to get a personal loan of some sort to do it, IMHO.

I am asking, because if there is a big enough demand I would look at importing them for you guys. BUT I need to know how much everyone is willing to pay. Especially for the legal one as it will cost alot more because there is alot of expence on my side to make them conform to our standerds(crash tests, modifications, emmissions, ect)

So any input would help. Numbers, ineed numbers! :D

What does a used GTi-R go for over seas? I would say tack a couple grand on top of that to cover shipping and other fees(yours). I would think if you were able to legalize these cars not only would if be a large upfront cost but you would really need to also supply spare parts to owners like evolutionimports does with their evoVII and soon to be VIII.

This is no joke. It could happen, but I would need a pretty fair amount of people commited togetting one. They sell overseas for anywhere from 7K-11K depending on condition. so we would probably pay a little mor than that. That is for a legal one. :D

just to give you an idea on your importation idea.(legal mind you)

You must first import 2-3 to be crash tested(thousands and thousands of dollars)

You must then make any modifications to make them legal(you will be)

To be profitable you must also become an RI bonded and insured company.

Thats just quickly there is more than that as well

Is yours legal and who did you buy it from?

If you can get them and it would be legal I would consider not going ahead with my turbo plans for my classic and spending my money on a GTiT instead. I take it these dont have egr systems or anything like that? Would that be part of the legalization of the car? I have to pass emissions where im from. Also, does anyone have any idea how much insurance one would expect to pay?

Well i recently talked to someone overseas online in okinawa(however u spell it)he said he can get gtir's for some where @ two grand. If you were able to get one with somewhere bellow 70k in good shape id be willing to buy one from you next year @ april for less than 5500, im willing to only get in debt more only if it where really in really good shape and lower miles (legal or not)

id pay around 5000 for a non-street legal one, and around 10k for a streetable one as long as miles werent too bad and the car was in good condition.
also, a gunny in my company imported over one of the first skylines (he was the second guy) and he said insurance was dirt cheap because it was grey market which meant you couldnt get collision on it because there were no places to get the parts from. he got it stolen and when they found it was wrecked, and the insurance campany totalled it.

I doubt they are anywhere close to 7k-11k in price. When they sell the engines or clips they usually buy the whole car to chop it up. This is because in Japan they recycle *****. Anything over 3 years old cost too much to insure and register, and is sent to the junk yards there. Thats why we get the engines so cheap and there low mileage. I would think for us to get a 91-94 car it would only cost 1k-2k max. A 98 Type R cost 6k there so there is no ways Gti-r cost 7k. Thats from what I know but i might be wrong. This unless your talking about 7k-11k yen.

How are you going to legalize these anyways? I was under the impression that it was alot of work, including thinks like crash tests and DOT standards.

:DYou're right. I remember reading somewhere on the web about the Type-R's costing somewhere between 6k to 8k in Japan.
