I did that but eventually the bungee cord wouldn't keep it in gear. http://laf.cioe.com/~benbobbo/NonCGI/frown.gif And eventually, I couldn't even hold the shifter in gear.

Holy crap!! That is nuts! So you're saying that after a while the transmission just literally pushes the stickshift out?

Yeah, thats pretty much what happens. On mine, all I had to do was release the clutch and it popped out. Check out the pics of my 5th gear and sync. in the "5th gear pop-out prevention" topic, you can see what is happening to your trans.
