: header install?
KikoSanchez182 12-17-2002, 07:02 PM 5th gen hotshot(no aiv) -> 93 se-r(aiv)
i already posted this in the classic forum, but i know ill get more responses here;)
1) do you have to use anti-seize on the o2 sensor when screwing it back in?
2) i need to know exactly what i need to take off the as far as the aiv equipment goes. EXACTLY. becuase i noticed the egr and aiv are both run thru aiv valve(theres a small metal tube that runs from it up to the egr/bpt, but its also connected to the large tube running to the air filter box) but im keeping the egr, so i guess i cant just take off the aiv valve altogether can I?? or can i just plug up the small metal line going to the aiv valve and take everything off?
3) ANY AND ALL tips or even common sense things about header installation is greatly appreciated.
Its311Pete 12-17-2002, 09:50 PM TIPS: Loosen the 2 bolts that hold the EGR tube on above the throttlebody. Makes the EGR tube come off and line back up better.
Teal97 12-17-2002, 09:59 PM huh?
Horus 12-18-2002, 08:28 AM I thought you were not to put anything on the sensor because it might interfere or destroy it?
I didn't use anything on mine, just a good tight wrench.
KikoSanchez182 12-19-2002, 01:04 AM ahhh! its all going smoothly, except! the damn egr tube wont come off the manifold!!!! the bolt is practically stripped, i cant break it loose!!! im using a 15/16 wrench, and it just wont budge, and used pb buster on it too, any suggestions?!?
KikoSanchez182 12-19-2002, 02:45 PM any suggestions on getting this off?
coach 12-19-2002, 02:54 PM i used metric on it, but I basically lubed it fired up the car so it got hot, then hit it again with WD and let it sit, and it came loose. I remember thinking i was going to break it or something I was pulling so hard. But it was fine.

a big fat red handled plumber pipe wrench with sharp teeth.. that's what saved me in the exact same situation.
97 Black SER 12-19-2002, 03:08 PM wd 40, liquid wrench and a breaker bar.
KikoSanchez182 12-19-2002, 04:04 PM hmm yah ive been using pb blaster the whole time. that plumber wrench sounds good. i also thought using pb blaster, then starting the car up would help also, but does it matter if i start it up with the manifold bolts off(manifold still on, via b-pipe and egr tube) and o2 sensor disconnected???
Andy92RubyClassic 12-19-2002, 04:21 PM i wouldn't mess around with starting the car and turning it off... if you were going to get it, you would have by now... i tried all the same stuff you did.. it was the plumbers wrench that got it loose..
find someone who has one you can borrow or go out and buy one!!!!
since it was rounded off, i never got it very tight when i re-attached the it... however, it hasn't come loose since..
KikoSanchez182 12-19-2002, 04:52 PM this plumbers wrench, is it like one size fits all, or just 1 size?
Andy92RubyClassic 12-19-2002, 06:06 PM it's an adjustable wrench type thing and i'm sure they come in a few different sizes.. just find one that will fit in the engine bay.. or you might be able to take the stock header out of the car with the EGR attached if you take it off up near the TB or wherever..
KikoSanchez182 12-19-2002, 06:24 PM to find out, i already have one, but that still only solves the EGR tube, still nothing to get the 2 header->b-pipe bolts and 2 cat bolts off with

Use the plumbers wrecnch one them to if nothing else works and the are stripping. I Know my Pace Setter came with new bolts except the 2 nuts that held the piping between the flex pipe and the cat.
Worse case go get the hardware you need to put it back together.

KikoSanchez182 12-20-2002, 04:11 AM yah it comes with all new bolts etc, i could give a fuck less if they broke, i just fucking want them off!!!

WOW! You are damn lucky the "WD40" did explode in your face when you shot it on the bolt. WD40 is nothing more than liquid kerosene.(sp?) That stuff is highly flammable.

se-r pastor 12-20-2002, 08:20 AM You may have to resign yourself to finding someone with a torch to heat up the bolt on the cat. Living in WI caused mine to be very rusty, so I had my dad heat them red hot with a torch and then took them off. Be careful because the cat has studs on them and you don't want to break a stud on the cat unless you want to ditch it.
Sorry it's been a tough go for you.
Horus 12-20-2002, 08:31 AM Cut em off man! Its not like you are going to use the bolts again from the primary to the secondary anyway. It will wreck the stock manifold ***. Just so you know. They are studs with nut if I remember right. Hack Saw Away!!
best way to get it off is heat it up until it gets cherry hot. thats the only way your going to get through that rust.
