Well right now i have a 1998 200SX SE-R and i love it, but there is *** something about the classic's that i can't shake, i love the look of them when they are done right.....but there is also an added incentive in this...

i am a college student workin right now for $6.25/hr, kinda hard to keep up car/insurance/gas/and cell phone payments every month ya know, so i was thinkin that if i sold my 200 and bought a good classic, i would be able to take a sizeable chunk out of my loan as well as get a few things for the classic to get a decent start....

now that i have told everyone a bunch of crap they don't care about, i guess *** let me know what you like about your classics and if you have ever had a 200 what you like about the classics more than the 200 and vice versa, thanks guys.

What's not to like better?

Better rear suspension
a little lighter weight
mostly high port motors
better looks
lower insurance
lower personal property tax

and most importantly no weenie power windows or locks ;)

worst part: trying to find a straight, rust free, specimen for sale. You might not save a lot of money over a 200 if you get a pristine classic.

I have always had a MAD PASSIOn for classics.
I would not trade mine for the world!!!!!

I love the older boxy look
I love the rear suspension
I love the highport
I love kicking ass in it!!!

first thanks guys, kinda makes my decision justified and gives me some more fightin power when i bring this up to mom and dad, well dad may understand mom prolly won't :o)

either way, i figured finding a good classic won't save me bunches of money, but i completely forgot that an older car would lower my insurance so THANK YOU for pointin that out...

thanks again guys, i will keep ya posted, this is *** in the begining stages

I love my classic!
You just have to remember to take in consieration that with age and ware, you have to come out of the pockets a little, but with the help of the FORUM, parts aren't too hard to come by.
Good luck trying to find a classic with anything less than 150k on it.
I love my classic more my girlfriends 200.
And the insurance in alot cheaper.

For the price of full coverage on my '92, I could buy a mint Classic SE-R every year and a half. The insurance premiums charged to young males would be grounds for federal investigation if it were any other business.

A 10-year-old Sentra with minimum liability is worlds cheaper than a relatively new 200SX on full coverage that you're still paying for. If that doesn't sell well to your parents, I don't know what would.

IMO, B13 vs. B14 SE-R is apples and apples. The big deal here has already been mentioned: finding a Classic in good shape, or even finding one at all.

Don't worry about cosmetics, unless you see rust. Worry about mechanical upkeep - almost any car that old you find is going to need something done to it. All the little things that SE-Rs tend to need with age (motor mounts, CV joints, brake pads, struts, etc.) add up fast. Getting stuck with a car that needs hundreds or thousands of dollars in mechanical attention over in the next year is as bad as new car payments. Find a car that has had as much recently replaced on it as possible.

Good luck trying to find a classic with anything less than 150k on it.

I just purchased my 94 to replace my 92 that was modified by a chrysler concorde. I found 4 that I seriously considered. All with less than 125K. I ended up with roodawakenings car ... only 81k.

But his is definitely the exception. My 92 had 170k.

You should also try asking this question on the "general forum" or even the "200sx" forum. I'm sure that you're gonna get a bias opinion on just this forum.

Classics rule if you ask me. I had both, and while my 200 was wicked, it was slower. Even with more mods, and under half the mileage. In the looks dept. I'm still up in the air.

I won't repeat what everyone else said, but if you have a nice example don't worry about mileage. Realistically like $2500 for a nice one, and another grand to bring it up to spec. This is just to be on the safe side. You may get one for less, lots less actually.

Mine is unfortunately for sale now. I may not have the chance to sell it. I can't say I am not in a way overjoyed at this fact. Even if it makes things a lot harder for the short term.

DOOD you gotta get a classic !!! hands down its one of he sweetest rides in the past 20 years period!! Theres a reason its been compared to the Datsun 510 ***** its sweet!! I would not trade my classic for any amount of money in the world i dont give a shit if Bill Gates offered it to me, not a chance!! AND every year the classic came out it made the C&D 10 best every year it was made. gotta be a reason. I mean just look at it very nice resemblance to the 510 and its unique. For every 100,000 civics theres only 1 classic........ think about it.........

When I was looking for my Classic, the one I bought was the only one I found for sale w/in 100 miles. Obviously, I saw a couple for sale on the forums but they were still 4-5 hours away. I paid $2400 for mine: 105,XXX on body, bad rust above drivers rear wheel; but it had a JDM 9.5 motor in it w/ ~50,xxx miles. I got my rust fixed for $300, adjusted my sunroof, and it was been great. Only way to go.

Gotta agree with pretty much everything said here...

Basically the trick will be selling your 200 for a good price and finding the right classic.

The only thing I would add to what's been mentioned is that I find the 200 to be a more modern car inside. I think it has a nicer feel and a better layout. The classic is nice, but almost in an old school 80's way. If I had to say... eat lunch in one of my cars, I'd much rather do it in the 200. It's more comfortable. For many people though, these advantages are meaningless. Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with either one as long as it's in good shape.

Ahh, yes! This guy owes me. I bought a classic from his uncle 4 years ago and since then, he bought a classic, my brother has an NX2000 and my buddy has an NX2000 and we have a parts car classic. It is an epidemic, but a good one. The classic is such a great handling car I love it. You won't have any regrets man and the insurance is cheap.

just dont think, get it no matter what, when i first looked at the car my folks bought me(which i payed them back every penny on my own job) i thought it was ok but I didn't like it at all! But after driving it for awhile and started to get the feel, my parents offered to help me get a new car and get rid of that peice of crap in my fathers words as he so put it, I said hell no but that story doesn't matter anymore, I have a classic and am happy as hell with what I got, there are so many things you can do to it and they say there are hardly any modifications for the sentra, but there are, you just have to look. Well enough about me, sell the 200 and get the classic, no if's, and's, or but's period.

dont rule out an NX if you cant find a classic. Not trying to pry you away from a classic, but if one cant be found you can find the same thing in an odder looking package with the NX

I would consider an Nx also if no classics can befound. although they arent as great on looks, the t-tops (if equipped) and hatch can be nice.
