Hey guy's I am not new to the forum but i am new to the 240 part of it.I have a 300zx, 200 sx ser and 2 - 240's. One of them is a 1989 Fastback, and the other a 1991 coupe.my question to you is which one of the 240's is the easiest to do the swap in?Is thier a difference between them besides body style.I like the 89 better but it is older.less miles though 94k.verses 175kon the 91. Is the S13 the best route to go with on either of these?Any help would be great. Thanks John

they both pretty much exactly the same...what exactly are you trying to swap in? if you are trying to swap a sr motor into them it should be the exact same thing...the s13 red top version of the sr20 would be the easiest route with thoes to cars. if your put a s15 motor in their you would have to change some stuff with the differential a lot more work than going the s13 route...the 240 fast back (rps13 aka 180sx) is pretty much exactly the same as the coupe version (s13) both run the same engine and everything the only difference is the body style...except the older s13s ran ca18dets instead of sr20s

if you use the 89 there are a couple things that dont line up. the power steering lines dont line up. theres a couple ways to fix this: 1 no power steering, just cap it off. 2 get a custom line for it. 3 get lines from a dohc (91+). 4 get a front clip and use those lines.
the stock tach will not work with the sr motor (91+ will work). get an aftermarket tach or an adaptor from msd.
if you use the stock intercooler you will have to enlarge the air hole to fit the piping and vac lines. also you can only use 2 of the 3 intercooler mounts(the 91+ has all three and hole is big enough).
i think thats all. if you ask me do it to the 91 but i like the fastback more. it depends on what you want really. Sport Compact Car mag did an outline of the entire swap in may 2002 volume 14 number 5.

Go with the '91 since it came with a KA24DE (DOHC) rather than than a KA24E (SOHC)('89-'90) as these came as 180SX in Japan with the CA18DET. With the '91 the power steering rack and pump can bolt up to the SR20DET (though not all the bolts line up perfect) and same goes for the A/C lines. Since the '89 came before the SR was used in this chassis things like the power steering don't work and the factory side intercooler don't quite bolt up correctly.

You can also bend the PSline over to meet up with the SR on the 89-90.
