I just bought a used '98 SE-R and if I remember right they don't have the VSLD tranny...
This guy had a bunch of performance parts on his car though and he also had an engine swap done at some point. The tranny that is in there has a bunch of ribs on it like cooling fins pointing towards the front of the car...
Now I have a KNOWN good '96 5spd in the garage, should I swap em so that I have VSLD? Or is there a stamp on the tranny somewhere to tell what the heck it is, as I've never seen one that looks like it.
Thanks
Chris

You could try the age old test of jacking up the drive wheels and spinning one tire. If the other spins in the opposite direction, you don't have VLSD :D Merry Christmas!

There's a 99% chance you have an open diff. Swap the trannies, leave the open diffs to the Honda girls.
If you have one, why not swap them out. I know it's not that simple, but with the 96 you will know for sure that you have it.

Swap that baby out, luckly the passenger side axle is the same as the VLSD tranny, so you'll only have to get a new drivers side axle, while you're at it get rid of those bubbly tail lights and that silly front grill!! :D I wanted that car Chris, that is an awsome color!!!

Trust me, you didn't want it :-(
Want the list for why? email me....
And I'm still waiting for the title... ***** rest up for a SE-R nut meet tommorow but otherwise woulda started her up tonight.
Thanks for the help all, actually there is a VIN tag on the tranny so I know its the '98 Non-LSD tranny, it doesn't matter to me, I don't have big plans for it yet so I kept it as is... (plus autozone couldn't even order me a new axle for a '95-97 SE-R, and the other places needed a week or two...) I had to order a new one anyways (part of the list of whats wrong with the car).
