So I have 2 blocks to work with. One is the stock SR20DE block that I took out last year that has 175,000 miles on it. The other is the Avenir DET that I spun a bearing in last summer. I want to get the boost back for the spring/summer/fall, which is coming up in about 4 months. Now the question is, which do I re-build. I am going to be running a protech manifold, t3/t04, tial 35mm, 50lb, etc. Whichever block I re-build, its getting bored to 87mm with wiseco pistons, and some eagle rods. If I re-build the SR20DE, I am also going to put the oil pump from the DET in it, and get it tapped for the pistons squirters. I am unsure whether I want to run the DE compression of 9.5:1 or go to 8.5:1. Either way I go I am getting a new head gasket to replace the old one. Now correct me if Im wrong, but I dont see a major difference in these motors if I do all the work I say I am going to do. I mean the main differences between the two are of course the fact that the DET is already tapped for water and oil for the turbo (which will have to be re-done for the t3/t04 right?), the oil pump, and the piston squirters. I am also port and polishing the Avenir head and putting S4s in it and putting it on whichever block I decide to use.
I dont know what I am trying to get at here, I guess trying to verify whether I am correct in my thinking and to see if anyone has any input on this. TIA.

Use the DET block. Lot less headach with the machining process. Plus a spun bearing isn't gonna do too much damage. I had one in my old DE block and drove on it for 2 months before i could get the new motor. Everything was fine when i took it apart.

if the crank is good in the avenir block just use that, the head has sodium filled valves, all being equal I would just use the avenir, I dont know why you wouldn't-could you explain??

The reason I even considered re-building the SR20DE block rather than the Avenir block is because it is already out of the car sitting in my garage and the avenir is still in the car. At my house, where I do the work, I have every tool I need, but I am lacking one thing....space. My dad has his winter projects also, like working on the snow blower and things like that which are put a little higher on the priority list than my car. So I cant put the car in the garage and work on it, and I cant leave the car sitting in front of the garage on jack stands because of all the weather changes its almost pointless to even move the car and have it be an obstruction right now. Thats why I considered the DE block. Also something I forgot to include is that my dad has access to a machine shop and knows lots of people and i will get all the drilling and tapping done for free. Also, as I said in my previous post, I am using the avenir head regardless of what block I use (they do mate together dont they? I assumed they did). And I know the crank is good in the DE motor as where I might have to get some work done on the Avenir's crank.

take the car and both motors and blow them up man, LOL! I want to be the only boosted se-r in traverse for the summer, just one summer. No playin, I would use the DET block with wiseco 9.0:1 pistons and Eagle rods.
